The New 52 was an opportunity that superhero comics and its fandom had to learn some essential lessons: creators and their freedom matters more than lore or "character integrity". Continuity keeps out far more people than it appeals to.
These lessons were rejected by everyone.

It is 2026 which means we are now 15 YEARS removed from one of the most controversial publishing decisions of all time: the relaunch of the DC Universe with the New52, and although its creation was rushed and imperfect, I still enjoyed a bit of it!

Some of the takes I'm seeing on here about what comics editing entails are WILD, particularly the folks who are shocked that editors have any interaction with the art.
Unless you're working on a reprint, you should know exactly what changes make sense and are necessary/feasible at *every stage*.

HEY PUBLISHERS: pay attention to this entire thread; and recognize that a HUGE part of the problem is assigning comics projects to editors with no comics knowledge or experience. Editing comics is a discrete discipline, and when you don't recognize that, you fuck both creators and yourself over.
I've had to explain that no, I cannot pencil and ink a 260-page GN in two months, do you even understand the words you're saying to me? I've been asked to design characters, pencil, ink, and color a 200-page GN myself in eight months (I said no).
