People stopping by the vigil site sometimes drive past and circle around because they realize ‘this is The Place Where It Happened.’ Some want to drop off items. Or, like those huddled around the small fire in subzero temps, they just want to share space with people feeling how they feel.

Asked what is needed, I’m told hot food. “Is there a Food Not Bombs nearby?” I asked. “The whole city is in duress, so people have been making food for people all over.” The statement shared like an assurance, a certainty, that hot food would soon end up here, too.

People are intent on holding the space. They have a fire pit and a wall of firewood to use on it, keeping each other warm as people filter in and out. Cars idle to drop off another batch of hot coffee or donuts or hand warmers. People don’t really know each other, but there’s an easiness among them.

I visited the memorial site for Renee Good, the anti-ICE activist murdered by ICE agent Jonathan Ross, in Minneapolis tonight.

What I filmed was just documentation of the mountains of fresh flowers, candles, stuffed animals, and handmade signs people had brought. What I saw was community in motion.

This is such an important point. This family tried to follow the rules.

The distinction is going to get more important when they start mass deporting the people whose TPS status Trump revoked. They’ll call them “illegal” too, even though they were here legally until Trump yanked the rug.
People are missing a big thing about the saga of the detained 5-year-old. When Vance calls the father an "illegal alien" it seems to reflect a little-known Trump admin move that attempts to nullify asylum claims before they are even heard.

This policy is a horror:

Our community-run art gallery flooded. Building management will get the space back into habitable condition, but we lost a bunch of stuff and we're closed for who knows how long.

We're a tiny volunteer org that spends like $20K a year, so a $3,000 emergency is a big problem. Please help us out:

something that really took me aback this past year was normie boomers being more likely to give me interviews after they glimpsed a gas mask in my backpack. they'd warm right up to me like "ah yes here's a good kid right here"
Seeing a bunch of normal ass midwestern moms and dads marching in -20 degrees knowing they might be tear gassed or worse really drives home what a cowardly lot of people the pundit class is

Somehow the NYT managed to cover an historic general strike without ever using the word "union" or even "labor" and using the word "strike" in a fleeting and almost jocular manner. They are implying that it was all something dreamt up by "business!"

Our digital producer @sam.vp just so happened to be with the clergy on their journey. He spoke with the observer who was attacked and others who witnessed the assault.

This is the way. Any 2028 Dem candidates need to start saying that on Day One: (1) all ICE agents fired; (2) pensions/benefits defunded; (3) forced to pay backpay as restitution to victims; and (4) only way to avoid prison is to become a cooperating informant
Maybe instead of identifying specific ICE agents who do particularly heinous things, we could just penalize everyone who was on payroll at the agency starting by a certain date.

I think I’ll do a little sleuthing tomorrow to start a list of perps making ICE chemical munitions like tear gas, pepper spray, pepper balls, etc.

If any of y’all want to share info on known companies or pics of the canisters in replies (ideally with a link to the source), that’d help. Thanks!
Seems like organizing against the tear gas companies should be another front in all this.
