This is the kind of banal reasoning we’ve come to expect from many socialists. “Racial disparities and overt racism are distractions from class solidarity. Just accept the racism and everything will improve.”
“Those of us on the left should be fighting to improve protections for workers of all races, and thereby for the betterment of people’s material conditions regardless of their views,” Arash Azizi argues:
Why the Cinnabon Story Doesn’t Make Me Happy
The left should be promoting working-class solidarity, not delighting in seeing workers summarily dismissed.

This last quote really hits at the limitations of DND as a system for me. It tries to tell you that it’s a narrative game but nothing about the game drives the narrative, that’s all work the DM and the players need to take on.
Deciding that it's better to just produce a large number of loose outlines for a GM instead of a fully thought-out narrative arc makes sense, but it also feels like a concession. "We can't dream of anything cool to do with our product, so we'll leave that part to you."

Choir, let me share a thought with you.

If justice for child rapists disrupts society, then society needed to be disrupted.

Oh, he's a job creator? Oh, the economy will suffer? Oh, the uncertainty? Oh, our whole political system?

If it's built on raping children, burn it all the fuck down.

Amen.

This is a great piece
The far right is obsessed with Lord of the Rings and Musk keeps posting about "hobbits" because modern scientific racism owes more to fantasy worlds and gaming systems than genetic science, and they see both as effective mediums for right-wing propaganda www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2025/1...

I work in regulatory compliance. You only design a process like this if you want no oversight. That is the only purpose.
DHS confirmed it has stopped automatically storing officials' text messages.

Instead, officials are supposed to take a screenshot, send that to their work email, download it onto their work computer and run a text-recognition program on it. Every time.

If violence is never the answer why does the government wield it so effectively, and why is it eager to do so?

condemnations of political violence are well taken but it does feel as if some
prominent political commentators are of the view that violence isn’t a part of the history of American politics and that is very much not true.

All the dire implications notwithstanding it is hilarious how evil this technology is. Billions of dollars spent on this greasy lying stupid thing that was literally built to replace people, and everyone that uses it gets weaker, lazier, dumber, and sadder for having done so. Well done all around.

I will never, ever vote for Gavin Newsom. Ever, under any circumstances. I don't care if he becomes the Dem nominee, he's still not getting my vote.
On a recent podcast Gavin Newsom tells Shawn Ryan how the Trans sports issue opened the door for him to change his mind on GAC for Trans Youth.

As someone who adored him since 2004 and voted for him 5 times, I can't wait for him to leave office.

There is no way I will be voting for him a 6th time.

one of the stranger phenomena in American life is that hate is supposed to flow in one direction (rural people get to hate urban people, Republicans get to hate Democrats) and if the hate goes the other way people pretend as if this is very upsetting.
The media made a HUGE deal out of "basket of deplorables" and "cling to their guns or religion."

But, of course, it will totally ignore Trump saying he hates Democrats: "I hate them. I believe they hate their country."
in addition to his "shylocks" comment, i can't imagine the media backlash if Biden said anything like from this screenshot - that he "hates Republicans" - and i'm also tired of having this "IMAGINE IF BIDEN!" thought experiment but it's just a constant reminder of the double standards

I don’t think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE.

This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined.

It is setting up to make what’s happening now look like child’s play. And people are disappearing.

“Your punishment is the person you will become” is one of the hardest sentences I have ever read and will ever read.
Dress it up in progressive language but you're cheating yourself by not doing the work. This is the worst thing about AI: millions of students refusing to learn, taking zero interest in the world around them, empty in mind and heart. Your punishment is the person you will become.

Video games are a meritocracy. You work hard, you get better, you win, because of the rigid (yet presumably fair) rules written by a computer.

That meritocracy, drilled into players for years, is why middle-aged straight, white men are such giant fucking babies about games.

And THAT'S why women are too emotional to be President.
