Do people not remember that Evie is a far-right project that launched a period tracker funded by Peter Thiel? Why is this magazine even in the news again.

I regularly see people wondering how it's possible that there are so many musicians and writers and film makers and artists from a tiny nation like Iceland.

And the answer is really simple: State funding for art education and artists. I literally get a salary from the government to write books.
I’m constantly astounded at the sheer level of artistic production coming out of Iceland. Novels, movies, music. Amazing.

A *lot* of you follow the person this is about, despite her doing wild, Protocols-level antisemitism on main on Twitter.
the answer to this is that there’s a yarn supplier/medievalist that a lot of people start engaging with because she’s Black and does (important!) work around anti-racism but also she went off the deep end of antisemitism several years ago and I guess some people followed her down the rabbit hole
That's horrible, and I totally get it - it feels like you've been tricked, and they've just done a horrible, horrible 'ta-da!' reveal.

Though the mind boggles how one would move from knitting to Nazi views. But then, as a dyspraxic crocheter, the ability to use 2 needles seems like dark magic....

a fucking pedophile sexually abused nearly every prospective and actual Olympian gymnast for over two decades, and the political discourse is hyper-fixated on the hypothetical unfairness of trans girls competing with cis girls
1 reason why I get so angry at anti-trans "safety in women's sports" people is NONE of them do SHIT or say ANYTHING about actual safety in womens sport. There are ongoing histories and challenges and abuses in sport, and folks are more than welcome to pay attention, and give a damn. But they don't.

I really hope Mamdani rises to the occasion b/c we need both plans he AND @bradlander.bsky.social had in their platforms: ensure hospitals are providing care AND invest in& expand city-run hospitals so patients AND doctors at private hospitals can get care/work where federal funding can harm them
good question!

same pic and same author, but this is today—february 17, 2026.

The bottom line is that NYC Public Libraries need increased and most importantly STABLE funding annually. Mayor Mamdani promised both and this preliminary budget is a BROKEN PROMISE. There’s time for him to rectify this. NYC library patrons expect that he will.

If you own every possible channel for information you can do whatever you like in terms of shaping perceptions of Folk Demands.

The shocking thing is despite all this, there's not a hugely unanimous hostility to trans people after years of intensive exposure to hate.
These people never grapple with the reality that the right not only outspends trans people 20:1 but they also control social media algorithms and many legacy media institutions.

They never ask the questions why public opinion changed and why certain issues are so central to the debate.

Congrats again, everyone, for allowing these people & this far right authoritarian party to dictate the entire National Conversation™️ on free speech, viewpoint diversity, & the marketplace of ideas on university campuses for the last two decades.
Real insane part of this clip is Hassett saying in the beginning that NY Fed researchers “should be disciplined” for…writing an economics paper that comes to a conclusion the president dislikes? A conclusion that matches the vast majority of economic evidence on tariffs? Nuts
Hassett: "The basic theory of President Trump's tariffs is sure, we're importing stuff from China, but we've got producers in US who make stuff, maybe at alightly higher place. If we bring stuff home, create demand, then that will hurt China & drive up wages & American consumers will be better off."

Instead of "the left isn't paying enough attention to these machine gods" they're claiming to build, perhaps we should write an article about how effective altruists brand themselves "left", ask who is writing these articles, and trace their cults and sources of funding.
