I’m seeing a polar bear standing on a crescent iceberg in my morning coffee…

If this had been intentional I’d be very proud of myself! 😂
I feel like this is how the Lib Dems won 72 seats in 2024! Packaging unashamedly liberal policy in a way that made soft Tories nod their heads in agreement.
I agree with Never Trumpers on a lot, but split hard on this: I do not think the Democratic Party needs to convince swing voters that Democratic candidates aren't too liberal. I think the party needs to convince swing voters that they themselves are actually quite liberal. They just won't admit it.

It’s worth mentioning, though it’s been said repeatedly: the Lizzie Line carries 1/6th of UK daily rail passengers (not including the Tube) and has already paid off its entire costs.

And if HS2 had been committed to, without plans being tweaked every 5 minutes, Phase 1 would be opening next year.

The outrageous sanctioning of EU lawmakers and citizens in order to pressure democratically-elected European governments to change their laws shows just how intent the US government is on controlling Europeans' lives.

We must go into 2026 with eyes open.
The US can destroy a European's life with the swipe of a pen
This week's US sanctions against European lawmakers and privacy activists is a major escalation. And it shows the dangers of Europe relying on American economic infrastructure.

NOW: Civilization 4
THEN: Amped 3

(I got an Xbox 360 for Christmas and was obsessed with that game, even if half the humour went over my head lol)
Quote this with your favourite game NOW that was released in 2005, and what your favourite was THEN (if you had one)

Localisations/early access count, remasters/ports don't. Remakes depend.

Two-way ties count.

this is the simple answer to people who keep saying NATO expansion matters. Sure, it matters because it presented an obstacle to Russian imperial ambitions. Putin didn't invade because he hated NATO expansion, he hated NATO expansion because he wanted to invade

I’ve never before heard of an artist being sued because they didn’t sell enough tickets.

In light of that: either they had terrible ticket sales and lost very little from cancelling, or the ticket sales were great and they lost $1m. Which is it?
Trump is now suing because he wouldn’t perform for him. I am trying to think of another iteration of the executive branch across its sordid history that has been this fragile in the face of the mildest criticism. Petty? Cruel? Yes. Pathetic? Truly a contender.

Ok Love Actually might be very dated, cringy, and have plot holes you can drive a truck through, but it also makes me cry 🥺

My mom does this. She’s legally blind, and managing leading her and holding onto luggage and getting through a terminal and not losing things is too much for my dad to manage on his own. This is the only way they can get help, so that’s what they do.

One of the biggest moments of my career:
USCIS canceled my client’s naturalization oath ceremony. We filed a lawsuit, went to trial, and the judge swore him in right there in the courtroom!

The home office have released their consultation on “earned settlement”, including the proposal that people who claim benefits will need to live here for 20 years to settle.

Please tell them how evil these plans are.

Given the BBC is publicly funded, this is Donald Trump suing you & me.

It’s a pathetic cry-bully attack on journalism by a wannabe dictator & an attack on every British person.

And our far right politicians & pundits are cheering him on, of course. #r4today

The most unhinged thing I’ve seen all week: there was a guy on the tube with a fold-up crucifix, and a music-playing backpack with a built-in screen that alternates between “Jesus saves”, “You most [sic] be born again”, and the BYD logo of all things 🤨

People love reminding me that I'm not allowed to post about American politics cause I'm not American.

Even ignoring the problems with that concept in general, my wife is American, their family all lives in America and one of my brothers lives in America. I'm allowed to care about their hell hole.

My least popular (and most correct) view is that cars should be automatically limited to the local speed limit. Put the pedal to the floor and you still can't go over 25mph in a residential area.

(15 in Manhattan btw)
There is no possible justification for limiting e-bikes to 15mph but not cars.

Completely normal comments below this, of course.

We can’t just call out antisemitism (and other bigotries) when it’s politically convenient, we have to call it out in our allies too.
Just so we're clear, one incident of alleged anti-semitism by a musician = a major national scandal that should be roundly condemned.

Multiple incidents of alleged anti-semitism from the man leading the race to run the country = a load of nothing that should be completely ignored

what is a “girly shy smile”, exactly? The dad’s misogyny is showing.
You might think from the headline that this is a story about a trans kid suffering medical consequences from a large drug dose but nope! It is just an interview with an estranged father who is angry that his child happily transitioned.
