As I understand it, he had a gun licensed in WI in a travel-safe lockbox that he checked for a flight to NYC but NYC requires a local permit. Seems like an honest mistake that will likely end up being a fine and then dropped.

I've been saying for some time that DV convictions need to result in a 100 percent restriction on any firearms ownership
My hot take is that at minimum a domestic violence conviction should carry a lot more of the shame and restrictions of a sex offender; it should ban you nationally from gun ownership, jobs in law enforcement, schools, pretty much any public sector work. It’s our clearest red flag for future violence
Watching these videos of ICE attacking children, I can’t help but think about how many of these men first practiced their violence in their own homes.
Domestic violence teaches our oppressors to dehumanize the most vulnerable among us.

Stories like this, about TRUE kindness, TRUE intent to do what's right by the dead, TRUE humility and service, is IMO the real Christianity. Would that all church leaders take this approach, as it's acts of faith like this that put pinholes in my agnosticism
