Actual study: Anthropic paid MIT to use a "labor simulation tool" that said 11.7% of TASKS could be done by AI
MIT study finds AI can already replace 11.7% of U.S. workforce

This definitely sums up my experience
An issue we're seeing at all levels of university is that many students are simply refusing to do *anything*. They aren't reading the syllabus, aren't following assignment guidelines, aren't engaging with material, ignoring deadlines. And this might seem like old news, but it truly has ramped up.

Trump is clearly signaling that he thinks the “national security moms” and the scary Muslim commies are on the same side. When the various parts of the American left also figure out that, for the time being at least, they are all on the same side, then maybe we can salvage all this.

It’s 1), and some 2), and no 3).
A lot of education discourse is at root an inability to decide whether the purpose of our education system is to 1) teach material and measure learning 2) reward students who work hard 3) separate the smart kids (destined for smart guy jobs) from the dumb kids (destined to serve the smart guys)

I love this stuff.
Thrilled to have this piece by Omar Muhammed & @fancynahyan.bsky.social out now. I'll be using it tomorrow in a talk at UC-Merced on "Where Do Pandemics Come From? Using Black Death Narratives to Rethink the Origin of Pandemics." Or the question we really need to ask: when are pandemics? A quick 🧵.

I cannot tell you how many tech journalists at prominent media organizations do not understand this
Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.

The right is quickly moving to dominate media. This is low hanging garbage, but things like TikTok and CBS are less so. This is obviously a strategy, and they are pretty good at being strategic. Big problem, left better find a solution.
The taxi TVs generally show local news and little pop-culture segments. Adding NEWSMAX is what the kids would call “a choice.”

This is true, and the op-ed about what a crisis MAGA people getting ahold of TikTok will be is not wrong.
One thing about saying Democrats should do this or that messaging is that there's nowhere to do that messaging right now. Major social media platforms work for Trump, the networks are scared of him (or taken over by his lackeys). Dems can say whatever they want but there is no megaphone effect.
