34) finishing creative projects is a skill in and of itself. if you want to be able to finish large, complex projects, you have to _practice finishing things_. which usually means doing smaller projects.

Every picture of every character she has shown me looks like this.

You'll probably have to blow it up or look at this on a big screen, but here is how anyone can make a little 8 page zine that they can use to write a story, write about their favorite things, a personal experience or make a mini comic. Fold some paper and get your thoughts out there!!

Does anyone have experience with #Neuland markers? I'm considering finally getting a set for graphic recording because the obscure ones I was using (Sakura Permapaque)are a pain to source. I was wondering what color/marker combinations folks use? The options are dizzying.

This is why it's so important to work on projects that you are passionate about, especially starting out. You're not going to be making a living, so you might as well be not making a living doing something you love that will shape the direction of your career instead of grasping at crummy gigs.
Just a reminder, there is no one path to “making it” in comics. But almost all those paths take years to walk. Years. So take a breath and try to enjoy the journey.

On "talent" as it relates to the arts:
At a talent show, people break boards, they breakdance, they break into song. Some of the talents showcased require formal intention and lots of work. Some simply require a propensity and enthusiasm. 1/

i just did a workshop with kids about making comics. emphasized that ANYONE can make comics. you don't have to be a "good" artist. you find a story that matches your art style and you do it and it's awesome. and a kid who NEVER PARTICIPATES got out from under a desk and PARTICIPATED and had a blast.
