A view of the Eildon Hills this morning. I'll add a pic from the same spot every time I do the little walk around my village in 2025.

Video games are special to each of us for different reasons.

Some of us were lonely, isolated, and had trouble making friends as kids. We were "different".

Video games gave us a feeling that we almost never got to have—A feeling of control.

And we finally got to feel what it was like to 𝘸𝘪𝘯.

ADHD is like 50% not working, 50% working frantically to make up for the not working part, 50% thinking about the work I should be doing (but not actually working), and 50% not sleeping (but trying to).

I fail to see any plausible scenario where massive AI deployment is a good thing without a dramatic shift toward universal basic income and sustainable energy at the same time.

I would like to see someone propose a scenario where the current system plus AI isn’t worse than without it.

What's so amazing about Jim Henson as a puppeteer is that he could literally be explaining that Kermit is made out of felt and ping pong balls and yet Kermit still feels alive the whole time he's doing it

Using AI on Notepad is like … I don’t know, carpeting the room your water heater is in. You do not need to do it, and all you do is create more opportunities for something bad to happen.
In fact the whole point of notepad is that it is as barebones as fucking possible.
The AI features added to Notepad created a critical exploit vulnerable to loading a compromised txt file.

The fix is part of Patch Tuesday, so update your systems.

AI is not a feature I ever desired in Notepad. I should look into some alternatives...

When trans people were desperately trying to tell us that the fascism & violence that is forced on them is indicative of the fascism & violence that will be forced on all of us, media figures & liberal politicians were bending to the will of fascists & fucking bickering about "fairness in sports".
In this in-depth interview Billie Jean Sweeney — a former editor at The New York Times — details how the paper shifted towards openly promoting anti-trans hatred, why this was directed from the very top, how some staff pushed back and the immense damage done by the NYT legitimizing bigotry.

168 years ago, on the 11th of February 1858, 14 year old Bernadette Soubirous first claimed to have witnessed an apparition of Mary near Lourdes. Neither Bernadette's sister nor her friend reported seeing the apparition. Now, around 4 million tourists visit each year. #otd #history 🗃️

Techbros seem to love Tolkien, so here's an analogy to help you understand what genAI is.

GenAI is The One Ring. You think your use is justified, b/c you don't have evil in your heart.

But it came from evil, it is intended for evil purpose, & anything you do with it will be twisted to that end.
