Getting really pissed off with my house buyer's solicitor repeatedly asking if we've "remediated" various minor problems which were apparent when the property was surveyed, valued, offered on, and sale agreed. I mean really, just get stuffed!

The UK isn’t a “soft touch” on asylum.

UK asylum seeker benefits are similar to European neighbours

No right to work before 12 months (it’s 6 months in France, Spain, Belgium, Netherlands)

UK settlement after 5 years (it’s 3 or 4 in Germany)

Let’s cut out the alarmist rhetoric.

I can't remember off the top of my head who said it, but the saying "they find it easier to envisage the end of the world than the end of capitalism" is sadly so true.

it is almost as if accommodating and conceding to far right ideas legitimizes them and signals to voters that the far right is a legitimate choice for governance
The Danish Social Democrats are currently on course for their worst election result since at least the Second World War, despite their brand of far-right accommodationism being touted as a blueprint for other centre-left parties.

The thing I despise is inhumanity. It’s not really a political position, it’s an existential one. But if your political party manoeuvres itself into a place where it practises and promotes inhumanity, I will despise you.

What's the Win Condition for this horrific stuff from the Government?
When Reform are Happy?
When Asylum numbers fall?
What are we looking to actually achieve - because at the moment we just look performatively and needlessly cruel and callous.

Ultimately it comes down to what you're going to say at the next election.

Would you rather say "we broke our pledge but at least things are better" or "everything's still shit but at least we kept our pledge"?
Too much analysis was still treating breaking the tax pledge as “just another unpopular decision” rather than recognising consequence of breaking a promise which defined an election for the public. If is correct the govt won’t now break it they may have avoided a deeply scarring loss of public trust

Worth remembering that freezing fuel duty, which could well happen again, costs about 30x more than the cycle to work scheme per year.

I need the most Canadian story you have.

No that's too Canadian.
When a man hijacked a bus in Hamilton, Ontario, on Tuesday, the potentially catastrophic scenario ended happily. It turns out he was a pretty decent bus driver. He made regular stops to pick up passengers, the police reported. At one point someone tried to board with an expired bus pass. No dice.
A Man Took a Bus for a Joyride. Turns Out, He’s Not a Bad Driver.
The incident in Hamilton, Ontario, ended safely with an arrest and no injuries (and all fares paid).

Large SUVs are a danger to pedestrians, cyclists & other drivers.

It's time to take action to reduce their presence in urban areas.

Only right wing people are real. And that has always been true. Even the union members and activists were right wing, because they were in the olden days. In black and white and flat caps. The wokes don’t want you to know that. Of course. It makes sense now.
