Ditching the playful conspiracism for the moment, yeah I think this is right. To the extent that it all refracts through like two dozen people that’s just a consequence of the consolidation of wealth and power into a needle-sharp point.
I don’t think e.g. Jeffrey Epstein and Donald Trump got on the phone to the Harry Potter lady, but I think the instruction goes out at the very top that it’s time to stop this impertinence once and for all, and that works its way right down to the level of newspaper columnists and rich celebs.

If only computers had built in clocks in order to tell time using some sort of deterministic machine-readable format.

But alas, the only way to know whether it's daytime is to pay nearly a dollar every 30 minutes to ask a fancy autocomplete bot.
I’m starting to think the people who are excited about “AI agents” have literally never used a computer in their lives

This. What is generally termed #AI (actually mainly #GenerativeAI / #LLM -driven automation), has no real path to financial viability (or necessity), so "forced adoption" is the only way the billionaire elite and their political minions are going to enrich themselves from it in the longer term.
‘They are no longer strategizing for voluntary adoption by those who come to recognize the technology’s utility by electively applying it to the problems they face. They are planning how to cross the chasm by forced adoption.’

If you can substitute "hungry ghost trapped in a jar" for "AI" in a sentence it's probably a valid use case for LLMs. Take "I have a bunch of hungry ghosts in jars, they mainly write SQL queries for me". Sure. Reasonable use case.

"My girlfriend is a hungry ghost I trapped in a jar"? No. Deranged.
