It’s hard to figure out how we can fight everything that is happening right now especially while we’re all being simultaneously ground to dust by capitalism but every little action we can take is important.

No surprise that the Makah people of the Pacific Northwest where this bird also lives already had a name for it, the Kwish-kwishee, and even have a lovely story about how they got their crest, as told on the @birdnote.bsky.social podcast.

You can’t “revoke a scientific finding” and of course the AP knows this. It’s doublethink bullshit

At Google, speech critical of ICE is censored from the company's internal platform, employees who speak out are served with warnings, and leadership refuses to acknowledge a petition that's now gotten 1,200 employee signatures.

Inside the worker-led push to get ICE out of Google:
Google is stifling anti-ICE speech in the workplace as 1,200 employees call on the company to cut ties
The search giant has made it harder and riskier to protest its policies. Workers are still fighting back. Plus: A community takes down a data center, QuitGPT, and the 5 worst Super Bowl AI ads.

"No such thing as a free lunch" is the most destructive brain eating worm to have ever existed. Yes there is, it's called free lunches for school children which are not only free but are profitable 20 years down the line.

Perhaps a hospital can work the same way.

It was a party balloon. You don’t have to humor them. Of course they screamed cartel, thy shot down a party balloon with one of their most advanced weapons. That doesn’t mean you need to talk about it seriously. Talk about what really happened.
The chaotic closure of the El Paso airport, which U.S. authorities blamed on an incursion by a Mexican cartel drone, brought into sharp focus the growing use of unmanned aircraft by crime groups and the crackling tensions between the countries over how to deal with it.

There's a certain jazzy piano riff they play on Unsolved Mysteries segments about con men that's much lower stakes than their usual music and lets you know that on some level they condone what these con men have done.

Cmon now guys. If any Dem says anything besides shut down until this is all gone then there's no need for federal government at all. These are concentration camps. If you're too scared to say so then you're part of the problem.
In the last month ICE has bought warehouses in:

- Hagerstown, MD: $102 million
- Surprise, AZ: $70 million
- Hamburg, PA: $87 million
- Tremont, PA: $120 million
- San Antonio, TX: $82 million
- El Paso, TX: $123 million
- Social Circle, GA: price unknown

This is unprecedented.

I've been to some countries where people live under military rule or autocracy. And without fail, one of the questions I get when they ask about life in the U.S. is whether it's true that Americans just let homeless people die on the street.
During freezing temperatures in Port Arthur, Texas, a 61-year-old homeless man was found dead in his wheelchair outside a convenience store.

He was wearing a hospital gown and no shoes. Authorities say he had been released from a hospital the previous day.

This is a diseased society.

I'm hardly the first person to note this, but it's enormously instructive that our President and his followers saw the message "THE ONLY THING MORE POWERFUL THAN HATE IS LOVE" and understood it, correctly, as an attack on them
What a moment.

Sorry I’m not willing to support someone, THREE YEARS OUT, that trans people are not supported by. Yes, rights for trans people (or any group) is a fucking red line for me. Maybe don’t vote for that person in the primary you have plenty of notice.

This is an authoritarian power grab, full stop.

Nationalizing elections would put the executive branch in control of who votes and how. That’s how dictators rig outcomes, crush opposition, and assault democratic self-government.

This should alarm everyone: www.ms.now/news/trump-s...
Trump suggests federal control of elections in ‘some areas’
In a lengthy interview with NBC, the president said he will accept the results of the midterm elections if they are “honest.”
