the agency really is too far gone and they will undermine a future democratic president anyway
You don't need to be an anarchist to think that ICE should be abolished

You can be a good governance liberal who thinks that the agency has demonstrated an institutional disrespect for the Constitution, and therefore advocate for unwinding the agency and rolling its functions into a revived INS.
ICE have revealed themselves to be nothing more than the partisan militia of MAGA. When Trump became president, he did not "execute Order 66." They have been yearning for the Day of the Rope since their founding, and all Trump did was give free rein to their basest impulses.

My dream is to be a college football coach and make 15 million dollars a year to yell at 19 year olds that they need to take the Bisquick Pancake & Baking Mix Bowl more seriously. My wife has a severe haircut, I cheat on her with several women named “Applebee’s Tami”

The best way to think about Vichy Twitter is a bunch of people sitting around with a big dog turd in a paper bag, passing it around and taking turns smelling it
it’s hard to think of a bigger grift than the claim that predictive text aka gAI is ‘conscious’ and thus “deserve rights” like the ability to vote

more confirmation that lurking clearly behind this idea of the “heritage american” is a straightforward contempt for the actual history and tradition of this country, such that vermeule has to hallucinate a framework to justify his desire to jettison the clear meaning of the 14th amendment
I had missed this latest delirium by Adrian Vermeule on birthright citizenship

'Common law?! NAH, it's the Roman law of adoption that should govern the interpretation of the 14th Amendment of the US Constitution!'

🎶I met a girl who sang the blues
And I asked her for some happy news
But she just smiled and said “you aren’t really getting the core concept here, are you”

We have dozens of slam dunk proofs of this right before our eyes and it’s honestly great. Plato undefeated
Plato argued in the Republic that the 'tyrant,' or someone with unlimited wealth and power, would live the worst possible life because his soul would be devoured by lawless, unlimited desires that could never be sated. I think we've gotten confirmation of this from more cases than Trump lately
I always thought Plato was pretty pollyannaish on this point, but this is decent evidence for the view that a man of bad character will therefore be unhappy even with every external trapping of success and good fortune.

And it would very much help if Democratic leaders were shouting this from the rooftops:

”We will bring thousands of prosecutions under 18 USC 242 and seek to imprison every Trump person who violated the Constitution.”

Everyone in the government that was involved in sending American people to the CECOT concentration camp must go to prison.

Prison. There must be consequences. Starting with Kristi Noem.
Yes, CECOT is a concentration camp in the guise of a prison. The Venezuelans were the first people to *ever* be released from CECOT since Bukele opened the prison in January 2023. Seriously. The first.
These are concentration camps. No other way to describe them. Truly horrific, and none of it surprising in the least.

Sometimes it is in fact just one of those days when you don’t wanna wake up, everything is fucked and everybody sucks
what's a bit of wisdom from a place you wouldn't expect that's stuck with you? I think of a line from a Crazy Ex-Girlfriend song,

"People aren't characters. They're complicated
And their choices don't always make sense" all the time.
