There is no actual functional difference between an electorally successful "Third Party" and the Democratic Party, in that actual membership-based ideologically-disciplined political parties are not actually legal under US law, so we're just talking about ballot lines and electoral coalitions.
“Rather than taking over the Democratic Party the same way the right took over the Republican Party, we should take the easier route and just start up a new party ourselves!”
I’m about to fill my pockets with stones and walk into the sea.

So much you can say about his legendary performance in RAN but one thing I'll always think of is how he managed to nail his performance in one of the riskiest shots in film history - a huge character moment as he walks away from the castle set that they are literally burning down behind him

we started with universal healthcare, watered it down to public option, watered that down to the ACA, and now the plan is to just do photocopies of photocopies until we're basically back to the wild west of private insurance and pre-existing conditions
Trump: "I want the money to go into an account for people where they buy their own health insurance. It's so good. The insurance will be better. It'll cost less. Everybody is gonna be happy. They're gonna feel like entrepreneurs. They're actually able to go out & negotiate their own insurance"

a thing that is underdiscussed in the backlash against woke gay marxist college professors is that one of the specific reasons undergraduate students often go nuts for these kinds of classes is because nobody in their lives has trusted them with ideas until those professors
When students get to college they generally don’t know what college is and that’s an incredible pedagogical opportunity. My freshman comp class did Morrison, Pope, Dickinson, Shakespeare, and Johnny Cash all swirled together in a frenzy of discovery. Education is what we make it.

this horrific video posted to social media shows at least four feds open a person’s car door, then handcuff and abduct them from laramie avenue.

this new agreement with lucy will keep the football in place, all while providing charlie brown an opportunity to kick it
If a tactic isn’t working, you switch your approach — especially when millions of Americans are hurting.
This new agreement would keep SNAP benefits flowing and ensure workers get paid, all while providing an opportunity to protect ACA tax credits.
My thoughts with CNN's The Situation Room ⬇️

Stoppable force meets movable object
Truly the greatest two forces of our age.
Senators lacking any semblance of a spine.
And Republicans dead-set on shooting themselves in the groin at every opportunity possible.

I repeat:
anyone who accepts any republican offer is a mark and a fool who will get what they deserve
they've already opted out of liberal democracy - anything at this point has to be seen as instrumental towards fundamentally illiberal ends
it's not clear how anyone can trust them ever again

The problem with "we have no choice but to do this thing Trump and the GOP want because otherwise the government stays shut down" is that there's no limiting principle.

Nancy Pelosi never let her caucus break on important votes. Chuck Schumer can't even keep his caucus together to protect 10 million people's healthcare.
