A Reconciliation Ecologist's Testimony at a People's Hearing

Something I had the honor to speak last week, to an auditorium full of Indigenous, Black and Brown, really a rainbow of environmental justice activists in Greensboro, NC.

@tressiemcphd.bsky.social has repeatedly observed that the MAGA feminine aesthetic, instead of aiming for a coherent beauty heuristic, is meant *only* to signal female willingness to self-subjugate to a male desire.

The outcome needn’t be “attractive”, it need only say “I’m willing to do this”.

Plastic surgeons in DC are being asked by Trump insiders to get plastic surgery that's obvious and in keeping with "Mar-a-Lago face."

Paging @inbedwiththeright.bsky.social, whose episode on Republican Makeup (another term for the same tendency) was an eye-opener for me.

The people who financialized (and then destroyed) the housing market in the mid 2000s did not care about building homes. Similarly this kind of sweaty shell game makes me very suspicious of the AI sales pitch.

In the century leading up to 1975, nearly 6000 freighters went down in the Great Lakes.

The Edmund Fitzgerald was the last.

The last. In 50 years, not a single commercial freighter has been lost in the Great Lakes.

Why?

It's NOAA. Of course it's NOAA.

Schumer needs to go, and Senate Democrats like you need to make it happen.

(Separately, there is the matter of Schumer's refusal to endorse Mamdani, a man who is clearly the future of the Democratic party. Schumer's refusal to embrace him underscores that he's a dinosaur).

What scares me is: 1) the size of the department - it is not small by my standards, 14-16 faculty members depending how you count, includes meteorology; 2) the fact that the state requires geologists to be licensed; 3) geology alumni tend to be very active and generous (as the thread makes clear).

IT WAS JUST AN ACCIDENT – Dir. Jafar Panahi is fearless. I’m in awe of his resourcefulness as a filmmaker. Even in confinement, he made films that took aim at Iranian society. This one’s suspenseful, unexpectedly funny, & deeply moving - a powerful act of political resistance. So grateful for him. 📽️

Jafar Panahi’s IT WAS JUST AN ACCIDENT is an astonishing film about resisting authoritarian regimes and the cycles of violence they can generate in ordinary people who yet show great moral courage. I wish there were more than 5 people watching it with me just now. It’s so so relevant to Americans rn

This is one reason why a liberal analysis utterly fails to capture the true dynamics here. Liberals also structurally are opposed to communism in a very deep way and share the core goal of suppression of communist movement with tech fascists. It is one of their closest bonds to tech fascism.

Right, the answer isn't to abandon the party to these weasels.

The answer is to flood the party with people who will take it over and transform it.
Hey, a lot of people are talking about changing affiliation from Democratic to Independent.

Let me tell you why you shouldn’t do that in Colorado.

One of the main ways to get a primary challenge candidate on a ballot is to caucus for your party. You need to be registered as a Dem to caucus.
