suicide epidemiology is pretty specialized, and trump’s regime has purged nearly all of the federal health researchers who could study this, and they cut most of the grant funding for academic research. that being said, the evidence we do have is damning, as is the lack of regulatory action
Something badly needed at this point is a big rigorous study comparing suicide rates among non-LLM users and LLM users.
i don’t see how any of the benefits of chatgpt and other consumer-facing LLMs can possibly outweigh their incredible ability to induce suicides
