They retired from the government. Now they’re back, protecting forests Trump abandoned.
The U.S. Forest Service lost thousands of workers under Trump. Volunteers and retirees are trying to help — but things are breaking.

Obviously Trump hasn’t helped himself with the tariffs but fundamentally people want the price level to come down and the only clear way for a president to do that is engineer a recession (which he may very well do!)

What people don’t understand is the problems with the Canadian system are the same as those in the U.S. but they pay a lot more for it
I recently saw a Canadian on another site tell us dumb Americans we only think we want their healthcare system, because there are 9 hour waits at the ER. Endlessly dragged with “we have that here, but you get a $10k bill” comments.

Good news for Canadians is there’s no practical way to transition to the US model from a working model.

Imagine each 🇨🇦 family suddenly had to produce $25k of premiums and $10k before getting healthcare. Where would the money come from? It’s already committed to mortgages, etc.

My post-college kid has gotten the following “jobs” this year:
* a 5-day temp gig
* a one-month temp gig

It’s not looking great out there. 😒

Tech users: If everybody loves it then there’s no harm in giving people the option to turn it off, right?

it was like the Old Major scene in Animal Farm where they make a big fuss over his importance before sending him to be turned into horse glue
one thing about this is that in the wake of all of this kirk is basically forgotten. he was barely cold in the ground before his allies — before his *wife* — started scheming over what they could take for themselves. a real life parable.
New: Reuters has tallied job losses, suspensions and investigations stemming from the reaction to Charlie Kirk's Sept. 10 assassination. Its findings: More than 600 Americans have been punished, and the figure is likely to be an under-count.

Hanania thinks he’s devoted to meritocracy but he also thinks the way to measure merit is by the relative merits of people you’re related to, or failing that by Pantone number, and we have different words than “meritocracy” for both of those things
That is a schism on the right, guys like Hanania think in the absence of civil rights laws the inherent superiority of whites will sort society into the caste system he prefers, Miller and Vermeule types think that government should interfere with the free market to enforce white supremacy

Good example of how an acronym can dehumanize consequences and mask what’s going on. Syntactically, “Diversity slayer,” “equity slayer,” or “inclusion slayer” sounds weird. They aren’t “slaying” these things; they’re promoting and supporting their opposites: segregation, unfairness, and exclusion.
