This confirms all my worst suspicions about "mountaineers".
Oh my god, the guy who left his girlfriend on a mountain to die had done the same thing to a different girlfriend on THE SAME MOUNTAIN.

Thanks, Leigh [blushes prettily ☺️]

1984 was the year I became a card-carrying fan (literally!) so this one is particularly special to me.
It’s another heartening, witty and interesting essay from @paulkirkley.bsky.social in the DWM 1984 Chronicles. I’ll say it again - I hope his introductory pieces are all collected and published together when the run is complete. 👏🏼👏🏼

They should bring back the Eagle Awards and give one to Doctor Who Chronicles: 1984. Fantastic work from Marcus, Alan, Alistair and the whole team. What other TV show inspires products made with so much love?

This picture is wrong, but not quite as wrong as the people in the replies think it is.

Big problem with the BBC is its sheer credulity and lack of intellectual curiosity about stuff. It feels like it has lost the will to interrogate (with rare exceptions)
The BBC saying young people are “politically polarised” and young men are “moving right”… I really wanted to snap NO THEY AREN’T 😭

This makes sense. Dragons aside, imperial phase GoT always felt closer to Shakespeare than Tolkien.
Game Of Thrones is getting a prequel play, The Mad King, set to world premiere from the Royal Shakespeare Company this summer.

The show, adapted by Duncan Macmillan and directed by Dominic Cooke, is set 10 years before the events of GOT.

This article is the story of the past decade in a nutshell. "We voted Brexit, it made everything worse, so now we're voting for... Nigel Farage."

Humanity is facing a mass extinction event and I'm increasingly fine with that.
Today, the Trump administration repealed the endangerment finding: the ruling that served as the basis for limits on tailpipe emissions and power plant rules. Without it, we’ll be less safe, less healthy and less able to fight climate change—all so the fossil fuel industry can make even more money.

Tried not to binge all of Small Prophets in one go, so have only just finished it and, god, it's perfect. Gently funny, quietly mystical, devastatingly melancholy. The creature effects exactly the right blend of nostalgic and eerie. Just pure magic all the way through.
