This is something that's going under the radar amidst the BBC crisis: that ITV, that proud regional network founded in cities like London, Manchester, Leeds, Aberdeen and Cardiff, is in talks to be bought by a US telecoms giant.
British television is dying in front of our eyes.

Either thru ignorance or just not paying attention l don't think people realise the implications of this threat from Trump & the Right long term, it fills me with fear & dread. With the future of @itvnews now up in the air it's a pivotal moment in time. FGS Labour/Starmer do something B4 its 2 late!

Nowhere in the hysterical pile-on against the BBC in the British press has anyone mentioned that BBC News now has 77 million viewers & listeners in the US and has established itself as the second most trusted news source there.

I’ve just spent the last couple of hours reading the Doctor Who Legends special about Terry Nation. It’s excellent. Great work from @paulkirkley.bsky.social, @eddierobson.bsky.social, @oliver-wake.bsky.social, and @cooraysmith.bsky.social amongst others.

A must-read on the corrosive influence of Gibb, Grossman and Prescott - the three horsemen of the rapidly unfolding BBC apocalypse.
The reaction to the Panorama edit has been nothing short of hysterical. Yes the BBC has some impartiality problems. But its biggest isn't the one you think.
New piece from me.

Most Brits still hate Trump with a passion, so it's not clear how well this will play for Farage. (Or maybe I'm just looking for straws to grasp at.)
Farage accuses the BBC of bias on Europe, immigration, the environment, Gaza, and Trump - to a hall of toadies roaring their approval.
And in the blink of an eye, turns to his actual employer "a much perkier GB News," then remembers "although I have to declare an interest." ~AA

No fan of Davie, but the madness of this - over a minor editing misjudgment - when Trump lies a hundred times a day before breakfast, with no comeback whatsoever.

This morning, Sunday, Radio 4's religiously inclined cousin to the Today programme casually revealed the 1970s post boy charged with handling the rats in formaldehyde that the Boomtown Rats wanted to distribute across the US as a publicity stunt is now Pope Leo XIV. I'm sure I didn't dream this.

I love a shared cultural moment. I’m the opposite of whatever it is that makes people not want to watch something because it’s too popular. I’ve hated stuff and gone back to it because I so crave having a moment to share with the world around me. Not just friends, but… everyone. Live Tv is special.

In the future the idea of letting children access the Internet with no monitoring or restrictions will be seen as neglectful as giving them cigarettes for breakfast.

US streamers are taking over TV. British artists are disappearing from the pop charts (and Warner Music is not replacing its UK CEO). Now Comcast wants to buy ITV, that once proud regional network.
After a century of resistance to American hegemony, is British popular culture waving the white flag?
