my point isn't (merely) doom; my point is that the plaintiffs and lawyers and anybody else opposing the administration needs to be realistic and understand where this is actually going because SCOTUS has almost literally told us that they aren't a co-equal branch against this man

A homage to and an extension of the team’s storied past.

Here’s a look at the Washington Commanders’ new 70,000-plus seat stadium.

oh, no, loss of U.S. citizenship by operation of law rather than making me pay fees to Dept of State and exit tax to Treasury and report to an embassy in person to sign the paperwork

dunno, man, eliminate dual citizenship and a good number of Americans will ditch the one that makes them file taxes and report the contents of their non-U.S. bank accounts every year

loss by operation of law rather than make me pay Dept of State fees and exit tax to make it happen? oh, no!

TIL North Carolina is one of only a handful of states that have not abolished the torts of alienation of affection and criminal conversation, and also that N.C. is famous (notorious) for large jury awards to successful plaintiffs -- N.C. is like the Philadelphia of alienation of affection lawsuits

Dems can't lose the midterms on moves like this
My legislation provides every American citizen below 175% of the poverty line who faces indefinite ICE detention without charges with government appointed paralegal and Grok subscription to aid in legal filings

may have a new pinned post for myself if I mention that it's only a matter of time before SCOTUS allows qualified immunity to an ICE goon who relied on Stephen Miller's assurance that their kidnapping, assault, and homicide wilding was 100% legal
telling the secret police they have immunity to harm & kill citizens really lays bare the hollowness of decades of right-wing GOP screeching about encroaching Big Government - it was never a problem they had with government per se, just that it wasn't being used to harm the people they wanted to

Newsom Vows to Stop Proposed Billionaire Tax in California

Gov. Gavin Newsom said he was working behind the scenes to block a proposed tax on billionaires’ wealth and was committed to defeating the measure if it reached the ballot.

there's a lot of people on this board who weren't at WTO in Seattle in 1999 (or the Occupy clearances in 2011, or any number of other incidents over the past 60-odd years) and, man, does it show
my mom got tear gassed outside the 1968 democratic national convention only for guys like this to call her a "boomer resistance lib" for the last decade. she's been in the streets this whole time, what the fuck have you been doing
Immense skill issue to not have found this immediately obvious in 2016

I'm a middle-aged white lady who's been stopped by law enforcement and the claim that law enforcement never acted like this before the current administration is laughable

I don't know what this guy's motivation is for making this patently absurd statement but he should be treated w/ suspicion
Before Trump, law enforcement were trained to behave professionally. At a traffic stop they would start with words such as "Mam, may I see your drivers license and registration."

ICE evidently trains their goons to start a stop with screamed profanity, quickly followed by violence.

... and on top of everything else, an NL lawyer I really enjoyed following on Reddit (but still hadn't identified, though I had a suspicion) deleted their account over the weekend 😢

trying again with this -- I'm insanely curious to know what that vehicle is
OK, internet

kindly identify the vehicle in the center of this screenshot (photo of our TV screen) just prior to the dénouement of LA BÊTE HUMAINE (1938)

it's on a pre-SNCF line known as the Administration de chemins de fer de l'État; I can't tell if the vehicle is diesel or diesel-electric

"Every democrat should be asked a simple question," wrote the Vice President, after which he provided a convoluted loaded question that would be objectionable on direct examination on at least distinct four bases.
I think most reasonable people can watch that video and properly assess that the officer was not defending himself. They know that. The point of this is to create an excuse for folks to the veneer of debate. They don’t care if the officer was in danger. Resisting orders is enough.

nah

1) wasn't his footage (he didn't create it) so he didn't necessarily have authority to allow others to publish further

2) NYT & CBS have made their bed as mouthpieces for fascists; let them sleep in it -- fair for someone to hesitate before agreeing to be source for actively hostile outlets
Hundreds of Bluesky users cheered when this attorney snubbed the NYT journalist who asked to use the video footage

— in light of what the NYT actually produced with the footage, doesn't that seem short-sighted?

recently had to deal w/ a client who wanted to structure a real estate transaction in a way that would actively harm them and I had a devil of a time getting them to understand that ChatGPT was not advising them to the best of their holistic interests

ChatGPT's advice was result of sub-1L analysis
Nothing I love more than clients telling me I'm wrong about the law because they asked ChatGPT, and when I try to explain to them why ChatGPT is wrong they give me an answer generated by ChatGPT.
