i love european olympics opening ceremonies. the second the ioc names a european host city the prime minister calls the culture minister into their office and says "find me your strangest homosexuals. give each of them a period of our great nation's history, a kilo of cocaine, and Ten Million Euros"

A staggering statement from former Washington Post editor Marty Baron: "This ranks among the darkest days in the history of one of the world's greatest news organizations."

My older sister had the soundtrack album and played it incessantly.

But I remember hearing it was a terrible film even back then. We never watched it in the theater or on cable....and hell, we were so bored as kids we'd watch just about anything!

The notorious Beatles cover boondoggle is currently, inexplicably streaming on Netflix. You may be tempted to see how bad it could be. Resist that temptation.

A nonprofit model could work - the Chicago Sun-Times and one of Philly's dailies operate under that model.

Sounds like there's lots of internal strife that needs to be worked out before anything moves forward, though.
BREAKING: An investor group led by former Penguins biz president Kevin Acklin has formed and is looking to convert the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette into a nonprofit, he tells me. Development comes after PG announced earlier this month is would fold in May www.axios.com/local/pittsb...
Group trying to rescue Post-Gazette as nonprofit
A team of investors hopes to preserve Pittsburgh's largest paper by shifting to a nonprofit model.

Hard to put relentless heartbreak and horror into words or context.

I suppose that's the point....no time to think.

Both Himal Chuli and Dobhan were amazing restaurants. For a medium sized city, Madison had an amazing array of cuisines and fantastic restaurants!

Farewell to MTV's video channels.

MTV was one source (along with a few radio shows) that introduced me to sounds beyond my city's Top 40 and stoner rock stations.

Definitely fell head over heels for the British new wave/post punk scene in the 80s.

Waiting on Alanis M in B&N in Chicago, 1995 **just** as You Oughta Know was getting airplay. I told her I loved her new song and she was thrilled I recognized her and the song.

A month or so later everyone knew her and the song.
Right folks. Feeling rather down at the moment so bringing back an oldie

Always willing to sing the praises of the public library. So many hours of entertainment from books & movies/shows I borrowed.

One of my libraries was a godsend through the earliest days of the pandemic (yay, ebooks).

I always forget about Hoopla and Kanopy.....but yes!
Reminder that not only do library systems have physical media (& many also lend tools, electronics etc), your library card may give you access to streamers Kanopy and Hoopla. We just watched Francis Ford Coppola’s adaptation of The Rainmaker via a hoopla the other night. Pretty good!
“As prices for streaming subscriptions continue to soar and finding movies to watch, new and old, is becoming harder as the number of streaming services continues to grow, people are turning to the unexpected last stronghold of physical media: the public library.”

Just learned of the death of someone I knew eleventy years ago.

We weren't close friends but in the handful of times our paths crossed, he was an incredibly nice guy.

Diagnosed with ALS and fought hard. Gone at 56. 😭

Eclectic, imaginative stuff, a dose of power pop and a whole lot of other influences.
