Will US science survive Trump 2.0?
President Donald Trump and his administration have gutted science agencies, terminated research programmes and cancelled billions of dollars in grants to universities. What are the long-term impacts for the United States and the world?

Good summary.
My latest newsletter is about the spiked 60 Minutes story and the reactionary psychology of Bari Weiss.

Somehow? They hate Jesus, it’s a good chance they will hate the Pope
It remains unbelievably funny that somehow the church picked the one possible American cardinal for pope that the right absolutely fucking loathes
Pope Leo said in a Christmas Eve sermon that the story of Jesus being born in a stable because there was no room at an inn should remind Christians that refusing to help the poor and strangers today is tantamount to rejecting God himself. For @reuters.com

The CBS reporter who led the story calls pulling it a "political" decision.
"The decision was made after Bari Weiss, the new editor in chief of CBS News, requested numerous changes to the segment."

Of all the trials to mess up. Incredible. It’s such a slam dunk it’s like you shouldn’t even need a lawyer to win

It’s amazing how many legit people got themselves pulled into this clearly sham operation
CBS News staffers might want to check into how things are going at their boss’s anti-woke “university” in Austin.

I really do think it’s very important to completely destroy whatever this ends up being.

This is the Trump plot line I least understand. I have literally no clue what they’re doing or why. I mean I know they’re randomly killing fishermen but just why and why Venezuela and why any of this
The president has illegally declared war to stop fentanyl trafficking from a country that does not traffic that drug, claiming its leader is trafficking drugs himself, the day after pardoning a former leader of a country who is a convicted drug trafficker.
Just to level set

Never knew this. Wild.
RIP Tom Stoppard.

Hardly his most important work, but I remember having my mind blown by learning he had rewritten most of the dialogue on INDIANA JONES AND THE LAST CRUSADE, one of the funniest movies ever made

Very funny
Deleted a tweet up thread about this exchange below bc I believe I misheard it. Hegseth was being asked about his use of the term “jagoff,” not JAG officers. Extra confusing bc he had just been asked about who prosecuted military crimes. Apologies for my mistake.

bsky.app/profile/dber...
This is incorrect as I heard and understood the exchange; Hegseth was being asked about his use of the term “jagoff,” not about JAG officers generally. (Whether Hegseth considers all JAG officers to be jagoffs is another question of course.)

We are going to bulldoze the entire thing. I don’t care what he builds there.

I find it funny when people who hate him call this “performative”. In a sense it is, it’s not like it’s his job to literally hand out food himself, but this is his job, to highlight issues and good organizations working to help. It’s such nonsensical criticism. You’re supposed to be doing this.
Combatting poverty and hunger in this city will take every single one of us. Myself included.

I would, but it’s Julie Menin.
If you don't know who your City Council representative is, you can use this website to find out www.mygovnyc.org

Call them and tell them you do NOT want them to support Julie Menin for speaker.
