The most important part of the Neil Gaiman statement is where he thanks all of the people who have stood by him and then names them all.

Also, can we agree that if he is on any panel or event the first question is always "do you agree it is essential to believe victims of sexual assault?"

Between the kid glove handling of rich pedophiles and their associates and the terrible opsec of the current politicial class I feel like we are just months away from a leaked group chat of young rich guys who are seething they were born too late to get on Epstein's email chain.

fun fact! a great way to support authors w/out buying their books: request their book at your local library! it seriously helps
Someone said to me, "I'm sorry but I got your book from a library." Nobody should ever apologise for that. You read my book! That's brilliant! I grew up hanging out in libraries and the idea of a world without them fills me with dread. Without libraries, authors, like readers, will only suffer.

exactly - it’s the constant wild swings between “mostly reasonable” and “floor-shitting gibbering madness with nuclear weapons” that are justifiably turning the world against us.
There's no way the rest of the world is going to trust us if we're going to pivot between being Leader of the Free World and the Russia of the West every 4 years based on how 150,000 people in Bucks County, PA feel about the price of eggs. This is what Americans need to understand most.
i do think even a lot of otherwise well-informed Americans really do not understand just how much Trump has already mutilated our global reputation and global trust.

it will take a long time and many acts of extreme contrition on our part to rebuild this.

People who think the right-wing revealing in the killing of citizens is anything new--or just some product of social media--should really, really read Nixonland by Rick Perlstein. (See below passages about the Kent State killings)

IIRC Harris shitcanned a proposal to improve release and future employment prospects when she was California AG, because making things better for them would have *potentially* caused a shortfall in firefighter numbers. So it is possible as an ethical rehabiliation: they just dont want to do it.

Apropos of the "just make friends" discourse, I really miss going to conventions and the friends I made but do not miss watching people do mental arithmetic mid-introduction as they try and decide if you have the social capital to make a conversation worth the time investment.

Reminds me of this under-resourced Ukrainian army officer who, nevertheless, described successfully terrorizing a Russian unit for weeks because she "did the math."

Someone commented, saying, "yeah, in combat, 'I did the math' beats 'I can do 100 pushups' every time."

This is sinister. If you're wondering why so many people don't report sexual assault, this is why.
jesus the Palm Beach Police really sought arrest warrants against underage Epstein victims for coming forward and cooperating, and (purported) admitting to crimes, and it caused the victims to become uncooperative with the federal investigation

I wonder if it dives into the differences between the Roderick Thorp novel and the movie: the shift from it being his adult daughter in the building to an ex-wife is very much an 80s choice (Javier Grillo Marxauch would be so proud)
