I write books. They might not be your sort of thing but maybe you know someone who’d like them. They’re about middle-aged people falling in love.

I also work on other people’s books. The one on the right I am particularly proud of.

I post about writing, editing, and rocks, amongst other stuff.

Went to Mattingley church today with @claudiusme.bsky.social. It’s Grade I listed and timber-framed and very lovely. Locked, though, so we’ll have to go back.

Today, thoughts inevitably turn to a man whose life and death will always be associated with this time of year – a man whose purity of heart and good works alike contain, I think, the true spirit of the season.
On the true meaning of Christmas
Some notes on the man who to me represents the spirit of the season.

For your holiday ambiance, I've made a hypnotic yule log fireplace with ultra slow motion macro footage of flames stretching & warping like liquid as fire reacts with calcium chloride & barium. This is real fire I filmed, not CGI or AI.

10hrs, 4K, crackling sounds, no music, no ads. Happy holidays!

I only got one book this year (so far) - it’s a good thing, I have books from five Christmases ago I haven’t read yet - anyway it’s a good example of something I wouldn’t know about if not for social media. Looking forward to reading @drfrancisyoung.bsky.social

Page 1 of the notebook in which my mother recorded every Christmas present she gave, and how much it cost, 1957 to 2003 (she died the next month). The recipients included her hairdresser, the milkman, the postman, the paper boy, the dustbin-men and “Tony’s boy” (toffees, 2s. 6d). She did good.

Unbelievably, #DuvetKnowItsChristmas generates such good will on social media that over the years we've raised somewhere approaching a quarter of a million quid for homeless charities. If you can spare a bob or two, sling some to Centrepoint, and here's the link: www.gofundme.com/f/duvet-know...

"Scrooge," Marley said, "you will be visited by three goats."

"What the fuck?"

"I'm sure that was the message. Goats. Three of them. The first when the clock strikes midnight."

"What the hell am I supposed to do with ruminants?"

But Marley simply faded until he was before Scrooge no more.
