Another thing I very selfishly hate about Trump is that I'm a retired Marine, and I loved being a Marine. I loved mentoring young Marines and helping them through the Corps or even life in general. I believed in our mission when I joined, many units I was in were focused on helping others.

I think older people, like myself (52 now), forget that not everyone online was alive, or at least politically aware, when 9/11 happened, so it's not seared in their memory. I remember that entire day and seeing the planes crash into the towers over and over and over again on TV.

the extent to which people have utterly forgotten that 9/11 was a real thing that actually happened is a testament to both how fucked human memory is and also how much the Bush administration squandered its mission to protect the country
I don't want to call this person out because they're not entirely wrong, but I think what this misses was that right after 9/11 the political culture were in fact scared shitless that 9/11 was going to happen again and again. It wasn't about civility that made people support WOT, it was fear.
