It makes you sound crazy to say this out loud, but it's becoming increasingly clear that the United States government has been effectively toppled by a group of overt pedophiles

notice how after ilhan omar was attacked by a maga true believer parroting donald trump, the mainstream media didnt kick off a multi-day orgy about how trump and other republicans need to change their tone and "lower the temperature"?

that discourse only goes one way for the msm.

Democrats should demand every sitting Republican decry this attack and explicitly denounce it, and then censure all of them when they don’t do it. Act like normal decent humans defending your colleague.

Watched Casablanca. Took a little for the movie to really kick in but damn was it worth it. Unbelievable how nationalistic this movie makes me feel; if I'd watched this at the time it released, I'd have enlisted to WW2 on the spot...

I wrote about my childhood friend Alexi Pretti. Please read it and share it and remember him as a human being. @theverge.com
I grew up with Alex Pretti
The kind-hearted ICU nurse shot by ICE agents was my childhood best friend.

the kirk stuff is at least in part, a reaction to a decade+ of unrelenting psychopathy from the right; more specifically, the hyper-online, 4chan right. Mere weeks before his shooting a transwoman's suicide had become the joke of the month for them. Kirkification is online lefties fighting back.
hmmm well digital corpse defilement seems to be a big meme in 2026. started I think with Charlie Kirk's face being plastered on absolutely everything. starting to see it with other high-profile recently deceased people. very nihilistic

The grimness of US history should encourage us. Yes, people used to send lynching postcards. And other people saw that, worked towards building a more just society anyway, and succeeded beyond anyone's wildest imagination. There's more work to be done. What's our excuse for choosing despair instead?
I understand and appreciate the fact that for some it is genuinely uncomfortable and distracting to think about how grim US history is. yes, that is strategically relevant, and no, I wouldn't put "did you know people used to send lynching photos to each other as postcards?" on a recruitment flyer

I'll take idealistic liberalism over technically-correct-but-useless smarminess. Who does this post help?
I fear my tipping point into madness is "Thus is un-American" posts in response to ICE terrorizing immigrants. I beg you to open Wikipedia (I would say a book but let's start small) and read up on The Trail of Tears, Fugitive Slave Catchers, Japanese internment, Indian Boarding schools & Jim Crow

This is the defining quality of Dem leadership. They think about political decisions not in terms of what they want to achieve but by worrying about and minimizing backlash. They are looking over their shoulder nervously at the audience ten times more intently than they’re watching the road ahead.

Even as a non American I think it’s cool to see people trying to make humanitarian a part of their national identity. Sure beats *not* doing that!
This is basically how I view the subject. Like, no duh, the United States has done some incredibly awful stuff over the centuries. But we also have a very powerful strand of humanitarianism, especially in the post World War II era, and I will damn well lean into that part of our national identity.
People who say this are clearly speaking aspirationally about a shared American creed they hold dear. “Have you heard of the Trail of Tears?” is not a very helpful response, because they probably have and the priority right now is moral opposition to fascism and not fake-educating each other.

So were the rumors INCREDIBLY off-base or did ubisoft cancel a game at 95% completion?
For the last few weeks, rumors have been circulating that Prince of Persia: Sands of Time was completed and would be released on January 16. In reality, Ubisoft was not happy with the state of the game and decided to cancel it as part of a massive reorganization

Bill Watterson is my favorite cartoonist. I adored the relationship btw Calvin and Hobbes as a child. But as I've gotten older, these strips feel even more tender and insightful. My respect for him grew when I learned of his stance against merchandising. Such principles are almost unheard of today.

ICE agent Jonathan Ross, who shot and killed an unarmed civilian, flew a don't-tread-on-me Gadsden flag at his house, per the Daily Mail.

These people are not the other side of the aisle. They are not the counterpoint in the debate. They are fringe extremists, loveless losers, fattened hogs, incurious slobs and slaves to bloodlust, and your leaders who accommodate them are selling you down the river for a cheap, AI-generated song.
