there is a page I have looked at multiple times a year for FIFTEEN YEARS, and I know this because I have RECORDS, that still had a typo in it last month.
eyes and brains are WILD.

Each time all typos are successfully edited from a book, the entire universe is immediately replaced with a new universe containing a version of the book that has at least one typo.
I've written this book 5 times now. It's been through 3 professional edits.

add in the social face-saving mechanics of something like a tight-knit evangelical community and it gets real wild real fast
I do have to point out that even with a more-accepting society, there is a gulf between "I am okay with queers" and "I am okay with my kid being a queer". People can support LGBT rights in the abstract and then get spooked when their own precious cinnamon roll makes them a "non-traditional family".
