Trump plans to send $10 billion in funds that Congress hasn’t appropriated from the US Treasury to an organization that he will continue to chair personally even after he is out of office.

This is looting.
Trump: "I want to let you know that United States is going to make a contribution of $10 billion to the Board of Peace." (Congress has not appropriated this money!)

Most Americans have 3 months of savings and are able to finance normal expenditures in the absence of a missed paycheck.

America is a rich country - most (not all!) Americans are financially comfortable compared to anywhere else (or Americans at previous points in history).

It's just not that hard to say you should vote for the Dem presidential candidate and if you can't say that you don't deserve to hold elected office at any level right now.
I sure hope the electorate sends a clear message that we do not support the Trump regime. But I’m not here for your litmus test.

There are non-voters out on the streets doing more to fight ICE than either of us. They are my constituents and my neighbors as well and I’m not going to vilify them.

Anyway, not to belabor this, but this is a citywide elected in Minneapolis refusing to say whether or not voters should vote for the Democratic presidential candidate in 2028, calling it an unfair "litmus test," and suggesting abstaining is okay because MN always votes for Dems (Trump lost by 4%)

How is it possible that Kristi Noem still has this job. Imagine if you’re a family member or a shipmate of this guardsman.

At last the truth comes out! “Dems are MAGA, but more polite.” The parties are the same, really.

You are a fool. This is idiocy. People like you bear a large share of blame for the state of this country and should be held in the highest possible contempt.
I'm saying there must be real change. Democrats need to be an actual left-wing alternative to maga, not maga just more polite and by the book.

Stop doing apologia for idiots. If you’re a remotely politically enraged person and you can’t look ahead to the 2028 election and know which party to vote for, you are a detestable idiot or actively malicious MAGA freak. There is no other option

This site will never admit that the left is way over its skis here, because you cannot be Cool On Bluesky and ever offer an iota of criticism of the left. But the normies who make up the vast majority of Dem voters will have absolutely zero patience for this nonsense. It will not end how you think.

I'm sorry, but this is obfuscation. The reality is simple.

Trump and his adherents are fascist white supremacists aiming to destroy every good thing in America.

If you look at a choice between them and a Democrat - any Democrat - and go "eh, not left enough, I'll pass" you are a child and a fool.
I've seen a bunch of this online, mostly from people less credible than Stancil. I've been a union organizer for almost 30 years and worked on every election in that time period. (I also voted for Harris and protested the genocide.) Posts like this fail to grasp 3 universal truths about elections.
The reason people are concerned about lefties saying “I won’t vote for a moderate Dem” isn’t because they want Newsom. It’s because lefties keep not voting for moderate Dems!

I think all the scolding about it being years til the primary would hit a little harder if WE DIDN’T JUST GO THROUGH THIS

you have to vote for the democrat in november 2028.

any other option - voting republican, not voting, voting third party - is completely and totally morally unacceptable and should result in your expulsion from polite society

Also, I would note that the people who you want to lead the coalition - AOC, Bernie, whomever - are universally in agreement with on this. They would detest you withholding your vote on their behalf.

this started a holy war, so let me state a very plain and direct argument for this

the democratic primary is when we decide if we get to have things be good or mid

the general election is when you decide if you dislike nazis
Counterpoint: if the Prince of Darkness rises from a fiery portal at the Iowa Caucus and declares his opposition to Donald Trump, I will ride to battle with the host of Hell

One of the most powerful, if not the most powerful, forces in public opinion is elite leadership. Partisans largely “follow the lead“ of their side’s elites.
Arguing Dems shouldn’t try to shape opinion is arguing they should give up this power voluntarily. That’s dumb, not to mention morally vacuous
A critique I hear of me sometimes is that I don’t believe in changing public opinion.

What I would say is that I don’t really think *working politicians* should be focused on changing opinion, that’s the job for everyone else — go out and persuade someone!

it’s really crazy how, in the course of three weeks, we’ve gone from “wow he’s really out there chasing ICE” to it being a point of total consensus among many that I am “working with the feds.” a bizarre demonstration of how social environments Online just microwave people’s brains
"If I keep working with the feds people might get mad that I work with the feds, what can I do!?"

The people who wrote “we hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal” really meant what they said very seriously. They also owned slaves. This contradiction basically drove the next 250 years of American history. Our ideals are good and we should live up to them
The ideals of the United States at the time of founding were written into a handful famous documents, and while the people living here both before and after that founding have often spectacularly failed to live up to those ideals, the broad sense we ought to adhere to them has wrought a lot of good
you said the intentions of america at its founding weren't genocidal. shut the fuck up about cancel culture colonizer boy
