“Our roads aren’t just for motorists”

Don’t get me wrong but isn’t the emphasis here rather wrong-headed?

Also, alt text is not the same as a figure caption. It’s the text answer to the question: ‘What point was I trying to get across to the sighted user by including this image?’.
alt text isn't just a good thing to do for potential readers; it's also a useful practice for you the writer, helping you think through "why am i using this image, what's in it and what's germane about it" on a regular basis
Using alt text is a way to be kind that you can start doing right now.

It’s right there in your accessibility settings. Turn on require alt text before posting to help yourself remember (worth checking because this app sometimes flips it off for no reason).

#alt text is not a burden.
Perfect example of how to respond as an org when gently prompted to start doing alt text. 👍👍♥️

Other orgs and museums take note pls!
Thank you for bringing this to our attention, and we apologise that we hadn’t been using alt text previously. We’ve now added alt text to all of our scheduled posts and will be including it on all posts going forward. We really appreciate you highlighting this for inclusivity — thank you.

We have reviewed the huge progress 20's Plenty have made in 2025 in this blog which looks at how 20mph limits are moving forwards as the accepted best practice for urban/village roads. And with the UK Gov Road Safety Strategy adopting a Safe System approach we expect even more adoption in 2026.
Will 2026 become the year that UK transitions to a de-facto 20mph norm for urban/village streets?

"While the work is ongoing, alternative pedestrian routes remain available, although they may be slightly less direct."🙄

What solutions present themselves when you prioritise pedestrians instead of motor vehicles?

The new Road Safety Strategy looks to reduce casualties by 65% by 2035. Wales reduced casualties on built-up roads by a huge 25% by implementing a default 20mph urban/village limit winning international road safety awards.

Well done Wales for its leadership. www.20splenty.org/2026_for20sp...

See how that ‘could’ in the subheading becomes ‘to’ in the main heading?🫣
When analysis is not analysis.

Let's come back to this when there is some actual data in what the LTN has done shall we? Rather than what a newspaper with an agenda says it 'will' do.

Whether you look at the Welsh Nation, Scottish or English towns, cities and villages or in continental Europe, 20mph/30km/h limits reduce casualties, noise, stress and create healthier streets. Its time to set it as an urban/village default and only increase where evidentially justified.

Do both.

And if solar parks are built near villages or towns, then offer the people who are potentially affected free electricity to offset their concerns.

Solar panels are not nuclear power stations. They can be removed with little environmental impact and can actually benefit biodiversity.
The solution is right above us. Solar panels on existing buildings, car parks, and along highways generate clean power without sacrificing farmland or wild spaces. Let's use our built world first. #Renewables #Innovation

I met someone for whom any time spent alone in her car, in or out of a queue, was ‘her’ time that she valued. Spending longer in the queue was more rewarding.
I once saw somebody who queued for 45 minutes every day to drive 1/2 mile. Motonormativity is such a powerful force, I suspect for a lot of people driving and movement are seen as the same thing. Add in the influence of habits and automatic behaviour and non-car alternatives don't even register
Glorious headline and content.

I dont know but this strikes me as pretty bonkers. What is mostly lacking at the moment is lighting on to the road surface. Shining light up from below increases the brightness requirement for downlighting. And the increased maintenance will be costly.

Truth bomb 👇: Traffic lights exist for cars, not for people walking or cycling. Before cars, we didn’t need them. Only when intersections became controlled and no communication was necessary could high speeds exist without chaos. We traded human interaction for convenience for motorists and danger.

You have to admit it’s going pretty well for Farage Ltd.
Farage: epic grifter
October 27, 2025 at 1:36 PM
People mistake Farage for a politician. He is simply a businessman and his business is Nigel Farage. He has chosen to promote his business through, among other things, politics.
Superb piece by @jamesbloodworth.bsky.social in this month's @bylinetimes.bsky.social mag: "Britain's Media Has Let Nigel Farage Reshape Political Journalism - Why?" This article alone was worth my annual sub to one of the very few news outlets still doing proper journalism
