A 77% increase in immigration raids, 83% increase in arrests, coupled with undermining modern slavery protections and a call to remove basic ECHR rights from migrants.
If you think what is happening with ICE in the US can't happen here I have a bridge to sell you. 1/

Last year I shared a fundraiser for a Ugandan LGBT group. Several members of their wider queer community were arrested around the election, & are now facing execution as part of an opposition purge. They need ~£2430 to pay the police to release them before the killings start. 1/

Really hard to look at this and all the other examples of bravery and kindness from ordinary people in this moment not think also of the tremendous cowardice exhibited over the past year by some of the richest, most well-protected people in business, media and politics

The best thing that folks in the UK can do if they’re feeling inspired by folks in the US is to get connected with your local immigration raid watch and other migrant justice groups.

Labour has only been emboldened by the increase of anti-immigrant violence in the US - don’t let it get any worse.
Once again tapping my sign: ICE exist in the UK 🚨 They have had arrest powers since 2000. This government - not a hypothetical future one - is working harder than ever before to raid homes and businesses.
Immigration Enforcement raids at the highest level in UK history
Record number of arrests and raids of illegal workers across the UK including 187 raids in Northern Ireland leading to 234 arrests.

This eyewitness to Alex Pretti’s murder — who is too scared to even go home because she doesn’t trust federal agents — directly refutes what the feds are saying happened today:

This is fucking stupid, we already have the National Crime Agency, our equivalent national body to the FBI set up to deal with serious and organised crime. Desperate to put some sort of stamp on the world in the form of taking credit for more cops when most serious crime is drug prohibition driven.

Essentially, what stops abductions is when crowds outnumber the masked kidnappers. When people aggressively follow ICE with whistles and horns, crowds are ready to show up. If they show up fast enough, ICE leaves and a family is not broken. (People here understand the stakes).

Another question I came here with was: how effective are the whistles and honking? Does it stop abductions? And the answer is, surprisingly to my cynical self, yes, and often. I have talked to so many people who have successfully interrupted kidnappings.

A woman walked into the graveyard, waved, said hello, and, as we had previously arranged, handed me a paper bag full of human bones.

The life of a churchwarden is a strange one...
