Having killed hundreds of aid workers, Israel is now completely banning 37 aid orgs from entering Gaza, including Doctors Without Borders, Save the Children, Oxfam, Caritas, and World Vision. This is an obvious war crime and thousands will die.
Any comment from our government?
'Simply unprecedented': Israel banning dozens of charities from Gaza
The Israeli government says the organisations have not met new requirements, which include recognising Israel as a Jewish and democratic state and banning any so-called "de-legitimisation" of Israel.

My 2025 in books:
I set myself a target of 50 books this year which is totally unreachable if my goal was to complete novel length books but my philosophy is to read widely, start books I'm not sure I'll like, stop reading books I'm not enjoying, count them too because I learnt something and

I’m not even quite as anti-car as some folk, but yeah, there is no good reason for cars to be this goddamn huge and dangerous, other than an individualistic arms race with all the other people who think they need a big car to protect them from big cars. Ban them.

ABC said that a very prominent Victorian with significant influence is talking to the highest levels of CA to play a one dayer tomoz. Winner getting $1mill.

Will be interesting to see what they come up with.

Day 3 sold out (90k ppl) before the match started.
CA lose $10mill a day.

Since mobility aids are the theme of the day:

You don't need any excuse to use one. Cane, crutches (heavily recommend forearm), wheelchair, etc. There is no minimum amount of discomfort or disability required.

By the time you think you need a mobility aid, you often have needed it for a while.

Anyone thinking people are “gaming the system” with airport wheelchairs clearly haven’t needed to use one.

Availability is unreliable. They’re uncomfortable. You need someone to push you. You go in lifts that stink of plane fuel.

That’s before even addressing the ableist bs premise of the article

Here’s an article from this year with the Australian gun lobby boasting that, with surging gun numbers, it was winning the fight against firearms control advocates. Blame guns. Blame anti-Semitism. Blame terrorists. Do not blame everyday Australians who marched for peace.

There are now more than 4m guns in the community – almost double the number recorded in the years after the Port Arthur massacre that prompted a national crackdown

Good thread for how to do alt text. Bsky makes it easier than many sites and there’s also a tag in this thread to use if you need a volunteer to do it for you.

Please read. So many great pictures (and important news) with no alt text. Many like me won’t repost without it.
So. We’re doing alt text discourse again. COOL. Welcome to a primer.🧵

If you're unfamiliar with what alt text is, what it means, and how it's used around here, the following may be helpful.

Although it's still a very underused feature, users can add "alt text" to any image
