A very awesome friend needs some help buying a washing machine that is a) not broken and b) possible for him to use on his own. If you're in a position to, please chuck some money his way?

Exactly. The message it's sending me is to keep on doing the things that have never worked for you because the NHS is not going to help, despite dangling the possibility of help in front of you.

“If you didn’t want your photo digitally altered and turned into sexual content you shouldn’t have posted it online” is just the social media version of “if you didn’t want to be raped you shouldn’t have worn a short skirt.”

If you’re participating in this “trend” you’re a predator.

I was very amused at the can of espresso martini I drank at New Year which warned pregnant and breast feeding people not to drink it because of the high caffeine content. (14.5% alcohol).

Journalists need to be clear when they're talking about the chatbot or the owners of the chatbot. Because surely they didn't actually ask the chatbot to comment?
Also, when reporters start talking about the chatbots this way, it is imperative to remind them they are basically asking a toaster for comment. They should be a lot more embarrassed about this than they currently are.

“Grok told CNN…” no it didn’t. You typed stuff into an unreliable calculator.

We're calling for submissions to the Black Archive from disabled authors and authors of colour, who we know have been underrepresented in the range.

Please spread this as widely as you can, as we want it to reach as many eligible authors as possible. Thank you.

Okay, I will preface this with the GIGANTIC disclaimer that I promise I know how this looks, and I *swear* this is not personally motivated: If you have an old #LiveJournal account, and it has things you still care about in it, download it or import it to Dreamwidth SOON. Details:

So. 2025 has been the most significant year of my life so far. And it's not even particularly close.

Trans rights came under attack this year in the UK. I have been trying my best to help fight back.

I've been a little busy. Here's a thread of some of what I have been up to 🧵

It looks like this. The chain means it's adjustable; there is a clasp at each end of the chain.

I honestly do want to know what people actually *want* when they call for an end to trans ideology. Do they genuinely think they can make the world suddenly turn round and go "it doesn't exist" and suddenly no-one is trans anymore and everyone is happy and healthy? Because it doesn't work like that!

Criticising a woman's lip filler more than her dogshit politics is still treating women as decoration first and a people capable of action and influence second

We didn't survive and thrive as a species because we had warriors or hunters - pretty much every omnivore can manage that.

We did so because we developed Grandmothers, and domesticated Dogs.

Community is what defines us as a species, and every "self-reliant" libertarian shitweasel be damned.
"my least woke opinion is---"

That's enough. We've had enough people indulging in the "thrill of a little conservatism", as a treat. Of considering reactionary thought to be a salacious and taboo in a world descending into reactionary mania.

Give me your MOST woke opinions. We're bringing it back.

Last day of staying with the in-laws today. We've had a lovely time. Braving the trains and the rail replacement buses tomorrow. I know being able to close sections completely for a few days at a quiet time of year is great to get big engineering jobs done, but it's still a pain.

Once again, a fancy conference where folks are paying $1000+ a head has invited me to keynote and has offered me... "exposure." No I do not want to mingle for opportunities. I want to do my thing and come home and get paid. Stop bothering me.

When you find yourself feeling upset because someone told you off for joining in a conversation wrong (which is almost certainly not what they actually intended) it's time to get off the Internet and go do something else. I didn't get any books for Christmas yet but thankfully I brought one with me!

If you have a friend or family member who lives 10 miles away, it shouldn't require an hours-long round trip, navigating multiple services and timetables, to go and see them if you aren't able to drive.
