Paris(ien/ne/x/s)! I'll be in town this week & next, digging in the archives of the @college-de-france.fr. Always keen to hear about interesting things happening (both academic and non-academic), but also just good places/reasons for boire un verre! (I haven't been since pre-pandemic 2020 😬😬)

Ha, this is brilliant, because our family also have a rule not to even talk about Christmas until after *my* birthday which is 19th November. This year my sister is bending the rules, and discussing Christmas presents already because we had a birthday celebration last week :)
I actually want to get the tree and the yule Dec's up. But we have a rule about not doing it before my daughters birthday on the 19th.
I just feel like it would be nice to have the lights up and twinkling.

I look forward to seeing how you resolve this in future, and I hope you can eventually come up with a policy which convinces me of your claim to be an inclusive organisation, but at the moment your actions do not meet your claims.
Please could you cancel my membership immediately.

In better news: we spent the weekend playing computer games and baking, we made banana choc chip muffins (to stop the bananas making a bid for world domination) and a Haunted House kit:

It turns out that what I thought was just a dead car battery is actually some kind of gremlins in the electrical system so… I would really love it if anyone wanted to buy some Christmas cards so I can pay the garage to sort it out….
Hi! Would you like some of my lovely Christmas cards?
I still have a small number of packs available and sending out a couple of times a week.
You can find them here:

Can anybody think of a good way to get alerts when a specific play is being performed near me (or 'anywhere in the UK' really, I'm happy to do my own filtering for nearness)? I think there used to be a thing that did that for gigs?

Advent is a mere 3 weeks away!
Consider this. Who in your life...
needs to know more about eels?
feels joy in learning?
likes the ocean?
needs a little treat?
You should send them an Eel Facts Advent Calendar!
Sales support @skypeascientist.bsky.social and it's just plain fun!

The NHS has issued a “flu jab SOS”. If you’ve been procrastinating, it’s now urgent. If you get a flu vax some years, make this year one of them. Get it at a pharmacist for <£25 or free from your GP if 65+/carer/health condition.

Leading flu experts say they will not be surprised if this year's is the worst flu season for a decade.

I always laugh at the name "least weasel" as in the UK it's just known as the weasel. It is the *most* the *only* weasel. But they are pretty tiny.
If you’re wondering what a “least weasel” is, they absolutely live up to the name. This is the least amount of animal you can have that can still meet the bar for “is weasel”

I had my annual diabetes checkup with the nurse on Monday morning. Weight, blood pressure, feet checked, urine sample and bunch of blood tests. Got the raw blood test results through via MyChart on Monday night, still waiting to hear any opinion from the GP on how I'm doing. Maybe waiting on urine?

No it bloody isn't, and the online booking thing is an absolute joke too.

NHS: More doctors and online booking - but is it any easier to see a GP?
A month since GPs in England started offering online appointment bookings, patients recount their experiences.

A section of cycle path on the Purple Pedalway had become badly overgrown. We asked Norfolk County Council to clear it but they only did half a job, so we spent two hours yesterday clearing back the vegetation properly.
It was hard work but satisfying. We shouldn’t need to do this.

'Biological sex at birth' is not the same as 'biological women'.
Limiting to 'biological women' would include trans women. 🤔

I dye my hair purple, I'm on a form of HRT, I have a trans flag in my bio, I have a birth certificate that says I'm female, which I got a copy of this year. I also advocate riding a bike.
Am I eligible to be nominated as a Woman in Cycling? Who decides which people to exclude on what evidence?

I LEARNED THE ANSWER TO THIS
Chris's Steakhouse was a New Orleans landmark
Chris Matulich periodically got bored, sold it, waited for the new owner to fail, and bought it back cheap
The sale conditions: Can't move it, can't change the name
He did this six times
Then he sold it to Ruth Fertel
