FOR SALE - the OH has decided to sell his electric G Line. He has the small Forest Green one and he has been out on it once for less than two miles. Ongoing problems with his knee force an end to any cycling ambitions for the foreseeable.

£3000 no offers, it is mint condition

Dropped car off at garage, walked to train station. I don’t normally walk in rush hour unless I absolutely have to. The smell! OMG how we breathe this in all the time. I don’t smell it later because it’s dissipated, but its everywhere. I knew this of course, but it’s one hell of a reminder

Also true in the UK
This is the founding principle of the modern suburb.

So basically I have to start wearing makeup, stop shaving my head, and cover up my tattoos and cyclists legs or I can’t go for a piss

Trans people could be barred from services based on appearance
The new code of practice on access to single-sex services cannot gain legal force until it gets sign-off from ministers.

For our international cycling friends @brenttoderian.bsky.social @americanfietser.bsky.social and others - this is peak British signage AND peak icy British attitude to cycle paths.
One for @showmeasign.online some ridiculously long cycle network signage, but they still couldn't increase the font size.

Walked the dog. It's baltic. Watched a cyclist get stuck looking at a choice of 3m of sheet ice or 3m of deep mud.

Yes folks, that's the recommended quiet route to the supermarket.

The shared path is covered in leaves and they're frozen solid.

The road is gritted, clear of leaves, and 40mph

The biggest issue facing many businesses is delivery to the customers. Royal Mail 24hr regularly now 4 working days, Guaranteed 48hr taking 5-6 days. DPD next day now 2-3 days, IF they don't lose it or break it. UPS can't seem to delivery anything, anytime. Amazon? Next day, (almost) without fail.

In the UK its 18 to drink and 17 to drive, she has an excellent point here
You know what is mind boggling? It’s the fact that kids need to be 21 to have their first sip of alcohol, but at 15 they are getting their driver learner permit.

If they’re not mature enough to decide on their own drinking, maybe they’re not mature enough to operate huge machinery going at 75 mph.

Men, stop being dicks
There seems to be a trend for some male cyclists to pull in front of a female cyclist in an ASL with the assumption that we will be slower than them. Stop it.

I strongly recommend this podcast and this specific episode. Seriously, give it a listen.
NEW EPISODE: "The Creation of America's Car Culture." Producer Ilana Strauss talks to @norton.bsky.social about the two men who, in the 1920s, teamed up to sell more cars and shape the way cities handle traffic. Their legacy can be felt across the country today. podcasts.apple.com/lu/podcast/t...

It stopped raining at last.
I looked out on a blissful bright sunshiny day
I thought I would pop to the coffee shop for a treat, on my Pashley
I stepped out the house, fell on my arse on the ice and crawled back inside

Instant coffee is not the same, but I don't bounce like I used too 😢

When i was a kid very few people where i lived could afford a car. Most used the bus/train/cycled/walked

Then came PCP and never owing, but always driving

If we get rid of PCP then we dramatically reduce car use. Its not car ownership, they’ve been sold a lie

Can you imagine YOUR city like this? Why not, more to the point.

All road deaths are a decision made at all levels of Government, within the courts, and to a large extent within the manufacturing of cars and the marketing of them. It doesn't have to be this way.
“Helsinki hasn’t registered a single traffic-related fatality in the past year…Citing data that shows the risk of pedestrian fatality is cut in half by reducing a car’s speed from 40 to 30km/hr, city officials imposed the lower limit in most of Helsinki’s residential areas & city center in 2021.”
Helsinki just went a full year without a single traffic death
The capital city is Finnish’ed with car-related fatalities.

THIS
If you are caught driving in a cycle lane it should be an immediate 30 day driving ban along with a fine depending on the severity and risk posed to others.

Bitter motorists, you can’t have it both ways with your endless whining “why don’t cyclists use the cycle lane?”.

In 2024, 1,671 people were killed on UK roads and 28,804 were seriously injured. Do you think this is acceptable? This week is #RoadSafetyWeek and we’re calling on the Government to take action to prevent road death and injury.
