1987 - according to comments on this Facebook post, this bracket arm holding up the trolley wire was the last remaining one of those Philadelphia (and can be seen in Street View imagery as recently as 2016!)

Probably my most radical view is that we should tighten laws on commerical speech to the point that we simply ban marketing
The ability of small firms to advertise directly to consumers across the country thanks to the internet is one of the things that makes the modern economy suck so much.

I couldn't agree more about the name. I've been ranting about them not making it Pittsburgh Area Transit since they renamed it lol. Having the system officially be named what everyone still calls it anyway would have been great, and the "Regional" is misleading for sure!

It's really understated how much their transit advocacy group exists at odds with the agency as much in a crisis as SEPTA and how much more dire the consequences will be for them as a result

Found something cool on Facebook - a May 14, 1993 Philadelphia Daily News full-page ad that SEPTA took out, describing a mini bus revolution that was to take place two days later, May 16, 1993! The 5, 57, 47, 73, and 89 were reorganized, and a fun little route called the 47m was introduced!!

Evidence of coming events: SEPTA has posted the official final Bus Revolution report summarizing the process to get to the new network. (The webpage on the initiatives site still does not have the timeline updated, but I would guess that's coming):

Yes. It's completely insane. It removes any incentive to ride a Class I, and realistically it will just get a bunch of riders of Class I e-bikes into trouble, because most of them are not likely to register an e-bike. But it would allow a round-up of teenagers on e-bikes, which a lot of people want!

Good news: City Hall bus and bike lanes got striped today despite the best efforts of Jay Young
Bad news: the Residence Inn on Juniper has instinctively started using it as valet parking hours after completion. Not camera-enforceable without adding Juniper to the list

Kind of an inopportune time to ask about this, but why in the WORLD is SEPTA replacing their bus stop route emblems with numbers that are half the size and you can see from less than half the distance? They even made them skinny for extra low visibility! Did Lex Powers know about this? wtf 😭

This statement got me. How much of speeding / cut through traffic on residential streets is a result of Google Maps, Waze etc? Rather than place the burden on cities to install thousands of speed humps, diverters, bump outs etc - could ordinances require through traffic to be mapped to arterials?

This is genuinely the biggest update to Reimagining Regional Rail that we've seen in a few years:
-Station rehabs
-Freight separations
-Rebuilding RR through the airport
-Double tracking up Wawa, Doylestown and Warminster
-New yards
-Extensions to WC, Upper Bucks, and Atglen
Here is 'unfunded.' If you read closely, there are a ton of regional rail projects in here that are obviously Reimagining Regional Rail projects that have been communicated to the DVRPC even though SEPTA's plan isn't out

gotta say i think FDOT bears a lot of the blame here. this is a railroad from 1885 which always hosted fast trains, even when it was freight-only. what the hell were your traffic engineers thinking

You just drop it into a container so you don’t need to tie it and bag it correctly at all. The container contains it. That’s why they call it a container.

With Wanamaker, Philly has already reached the absurd stage of residential conversion with insanely skinny units granting 1 (one) window each. Would never want to live here!
