The young graduates with large student debts who are hit hardest by recent changes to the student loan system were one of the strongest constituencies for Labour in the 2024 general election.
Spoke to Shleagh Fogarty yesterday sbout why the Chancellor is wrong: our “student loan” system is not remotely fair. It’s regressive and embedding inter and intra generational wealth inequality. It’s not a loan system, it’s a bad grad tax in all but name.

It’s on their website. That’s how comfortable fascists are in the UK today.

Quite a turnaround for Starmer faithful Polly Toynbee, to call for a leadership election. Not sure a change of leader is what we need, but a change in the narrative & the strength to take on - and win - arguments.
The final paragraph is spot on imo.

Braverman is one of the most repulsive politicians out there. Vicious, fascistic, useless, without principle, loyalty or *any* actual genuine success to her name.
Just cheating, lying, letting people down and delivering failure. No wonder she feels she’s “come home” to Reform. It’s a perfect fit.

Once again I wish @steverichards.bsky.social were advising Starmer.
Labour needs Burnham’s ability to frame an argument & go on the offensive - attributing our current crises to the Tories.
By blocking him Starmer comes across as threatened & unconfident.

Me, on QR: Why would they want to block Burnham? It shows weakness, upsets the PLP, risks the seat, and actually there are considerable upsides to his winning, in terms of showing the Greens to be beatable, and even his losing, in terms of taking the most keen condender out of any race.

The NEC: 🙈
NEW: Andy Burnham *blocked* from standing in the Gorton and Denton byelection. Of nine voting members on NEC group was 8-1 against him.
