About me: I write about the perils of corporate disability inclusion. Increasingly, that writing is done in collaboration with my comrade @fractalecho.bsky.social. Here are some recent pieces that I believe make great teaching tools:

A few weeks back ICE agents ate at a Mexican restaurant and then *detained the restaurant's workers* and they're complaining about how they can't eat out anymore?
Q: Can you be specific about how many ICE and CBP agents are currently operating in the state?

HOMAN: 3,000. There's been some rotations. They've been in theater a long time. Day after day, can't eat in restaurants, people spin on you, blowing whistles at you. But my main focus now is draw down

Hi @abigailspanberger.com I start a new job next week. Unemployment has been a nightmare. I just attempted to call to resolve the latest issue and was informed by the system that I’m no longer eligible to speak with a human because I have spoken to a human too many times. Can you address this?

Tina has never hosted a single town hall in her entire time in the United States Congress.
I’m relieved Ilhan is okay and the guy who did this is in police custody.

Notice how Ilhan stood up and basically said “No, I'm not done yet. I'm not going to let this guy scare me away from doing this town hall.”

That's what service and patriotism looks like.

I wrote about how murders of people seen as “good” tend to galvanize the public against state violence in helpful ways. But to establish a just system in the long run, it's critical to recognize harm done to those who would never make the cut as saints.

The biggest risk in this moment is something sociologists call “symbolic compliance.”

That’s when an institution that is violating civil rights gives the public just enough symbolic victories that accountability efforts lose steam before there has been any meaningful change.

It's so clear how those in power are working toward appling "Hamas laying down its arms" logic to Pretti
I hope his return will bring comfort to his family, and mark the beginning of a more peaceful Middle East, with the opening of the Rafah Corridor and Hamas laying down its arms.

The Deporter-in-Chief finally chimes in. Fun fact: under Obama, ICE and Border Patrol’s budgets exploded, dozens died in detention, and over 3,000 people were killed at the border by the bipartisan policy of “prevention through deterrence.”
The killing of Alex Pretti is a heartbreaking tragedy. It should also be a wake-up call to every American, regardless of party, that many of our core values as a nation are increasingly under assault.

CBP chief Bovino has confirmed that the officers who executed Alex Pretti in the street yesterday are not only *not on administrative leave,* they have all been reassigned to other jurisdictions and are all on the street today.

This is totally unheard of for any officer-involved shooting

Never forget that the reason they are so convinced you’re all getting paid is that they are all getting paid.
The fact that every right winger with influence screams "who is paying for all of this" tells you exactly how awash in cash they all are, and how much they rely on that to keep their movement afloat.
James O'Keefe says he's never seen anything so organized as the anti-ICE movement, observers--he seems to think this term is code--everywhere he goes. Who is paying for it??? he demands to know. It's like he can't even imagine people caring for one another.

We are observers, not protestors. We show up to document and film the atrocities ICE is committing. Using 5 year olds as bait. Kidnapping senior citizens. Breaking down doors without warrants. Murdering poets and nurses. Media has all of that information because *observers* were there to document it

I would be very surprised if a full accounting in the future didn't reveal more than one mass grave at the detention centers. If they're behaving this way in public, what's happening out of sight must be many times more brutal.
Imagine what’s happening in the camps.
Imagine how much they’d be lying about what happened without all the videos showing it from multiple angles.

Cheerful. Funny. Gentle.

And still, per sources, Trump officials are urging staff to call him a "terrorist."
