Jeremy Renner’s filmmaking partner has accused the Marvel actor of threatening to “call ICE” on her after she confronted him about alleged misconduct. Chinese filmmaker Yi Zhou, 34, who told the Daily Mail she was dating Renner, 54, last month, also accused him of sending “unsolicited pornographic images of himself” in a series of Instagram posts Monday.

of course this is how it would get reported by an industry mouthpiece - one of the complaints came from "the head of NFL Players Inc., the licensing arm of the union." I sincerely hope she's doing ok, and look forward to @pablo.show correcting the record.
Heather McPhee, associate general counsel for the NFLPA since 2009, was the subject of complaints alleging her failure to follow supervisors' directions as well as allegations of bullying colleagues and disrupting the union's work environment, the sources said.

From the article which gives us the honor along with our partner Be My Eyes, "The glasses discreetly include a 12 megapixel camera, open-ear audio and Meta's AI. Blind and low-vision people report using them to identify money they're holding, sort their mail, find bathrooms and check that clothes match. For example, the University Of Illinois Urbana-Champaign has received unprecedented cross-industry support from Amazon, Apple, Google, Meta, and Microsoft for its Speech Accessibility Project to “build stronger, more adept machine learning models so as to better understand more diverse speech patterns.” Nobody seems to be asking why these four competing titans of tech would choose to come together on this specific one-of-a-kind collaboration, when competition and litigiousness characterize nearly all of their other interactions. Instead, the project website claims their alliance is “rooted in the belief that inclusive speech recognition should be a universal experience. Working together on the Speech Accessibility Project is a way to provide the best and most expedient path to inclusive speech recognition solutions.” What they don’t note is how “inclusive speech recognition” will also make it possible to discern speech under unusual conditions. What is the likelihood, then, that the Speech Accessibility Project will find itself first serving a surveillance state that’s already laser-focused on disproportionately criminalized populations?

General manager had time to craft a response and this is the best he could do….
State fair general manager Craig Rudland said they are required to have barriers around the stage at the artist’s request. He said a spectator being between that barrier and the stage goes against protocol. Rudland added there is reserved accessible seating in the grandstand. He said, to his knowledge, there were several spots open, and he’s unsure why the concertgoer was not up there for better viewing.

This “first Disability Pride Day” was organized by a broad coalition of AIDS, queer, and disability activist groups who refused to acquiesce to the inevitable cooling period after broad legislation has been signed and political capital is spent. As Ann Hausbrouk, a blind bisexual organizer said at the time, “It’s about pushing boundaries, now that the Americans with Disabilities Act ha[d] passed,” just three months prior. And even though the “first Disability Pride Day” was intentionally pegged as the “next step in the disability rights movement,” Disability Pride Month is now marked as an annual commemoration of the ADA, and conscripts the organizers of Disability Pride Day into embracing something they were, in fact, resisting.

Nothing about Trump has changed, except for who he has the power to hurt.
I am standing on a helipad in NYC watching Trump’s helicopter land I have been feeling more haunted by this day than ever before. I was working as the production assistant to Ellen and we traveled to New York for a series of shows to launch the new season. The specifics of this field shoot have grown hazy. In my role, I was sometimes equipped with a clamshell to capture extra b roll. On this day, I simply had a stack of releases to in case anyone besides the two of them wound up on camera. Because of this, I did my best to keep close to the action. There was more jostling than usual behind the camera, I believe due to his security jockeying for dominance. We were walking through a corridor that was both indoors and outdoors, headed to the helipad, there was a gutter, I believe to capture rain, and at one point, one of his security guards, one I recall seeing on TV occasionally during the first administration, with a simple swipe of his hand, shoved me and I fell into it. Finally, she has admitted why she left. Rosie left too, and at least is speaking out. Why was Trump acceptable during this chummy field shoot, but is so dangerous now that she rehomed abroad? I’m only left with more questions.

Not unrelated: I had this interaction with @fractalecho.bsky.social yesterday.
I wrote: Gotta keep remembering we don’t write for an audience we write for the next person. For as clear as I feel I have become on my ethic, it can be hard to stay in it at times. That sense of wanting more still gets me. Rua responded: Wanting to know that what we wrote stirred something in someone is not the same as chasing engagement. It is a pragmatic understanding that to reach that someone, a small dose of virality may be required.

In their conclusion, Jesse expressed the exact frustration I was feeling. This is why our work needs to be platformed. Who knows how many others out there are experiencing the same thing with this particular antagonist.
As I, too, quietly publish my work in zines, tiny internet mags, and small press chapbooks, I find myself quietly fuming at Hendren’s casual, chirping positivity for the future of design and access by citing neoliberal understandings of individuals and communities.

Similarly, we use a Freire quote to describe what Jesse says about Hendren imparting her own beliefs as she purports to make disability legible to the masses. I would have loved to build on Jesse's work instead of replicating it, but this is what happens when our work is made unsearchable.
Hendren’s text is entirely about us with very little of our own words: each quote is left up to Hendren’s interpretations, coloured as they inevitably are by her position in an ableist culture of publishing, academia, and the United States. Paulo Freire puts this into context in his classic text, Pedagogy of the Oppressed, when he described the educated oppressor who “approach[es] the peasant or urban masses with projects which may correspond to their own view of the world. They forget that their fundamental objective is to fight alongside the people for the recovery of the people's stolen humanity.”
