Nerd fact (I’m a marine biologist after all), when luciferin and luciferase (gotta love the biblical names) join together, they react with the oxygen in the air to make an oxidised complex. After that, luciferin emits a photon, and that is what you see when it breaks

That they have to know enough to be able to fact check the output. If they can't, there's a very realistic chance the output will make them look like a fool.

We're getting bigger. Now you can join CrimRxiv Consortium as an individual. Same price as what it costs to read and publish on CrimRxiv (which is zero). 🧡 Be an early member of the open-criminology movement.

Early(ish) career folk, if you haven't seen this call, please take a look! We've had a decent number of responses but we would like to get more representation from across the sector. The (extended) call technically ends tomorrow, but we can be flexible for promised submissions.

OK now you're just showing off 😆 but seriously, it's those many years of collaborating that got you to this stage of it being 'quick and smooth'.

Impressive! I don't envy how long and how much effort that must have been to set up, but it should be a great return on investment.

I just submitted a peer review that I was extremely tempted to write in confidential comments to the editor "more unsubstantiated claims than the US president". It beggars belief.

I'll see you there :) I've only been to one (last yr in Christchurch) and enjoyed it but I hear it is variable based on the host institution's priorities. Brisbane is a great city to sightsee in but will be s-t-i-c-k-y in Dec 🥵

We've built registered reports into @evidencebasejnl.bsky.social to try and help with that 🤓

I don't disagree but how would that work in practice when the findings are in the abstract (or should be)?

Sim City, that takes me back! Used to love that game!
More cuts to the Marsden Fund. This time $20 million from the annual budget cut starting next year. This is on top of previous cuts by this government. They are trying to skip the 'priming the pump' step of public research as a driver of the economy. How well that is going to work?
