I was interviewed for a new @bloomberg.com feature on 3D-printed firearms. I discussed how designs like the FGC-9 are spreading across online communities, where they are being reframed as tools of empowerment, resistance, and self-defense.

One of the things that interests me most about this topic is how extremist violence reflects a broader armament culture where weapons are not just tools but carriers of meaning. When firearms are inscribed, customised, or 3D-printed with symbols, they become artefacts of identity and belonging.
In the wake of Charlie Kirk’s assassination, and reports that the suspect etched obscure internet memes onto recovered bullet casings, @yveilleuxlepage.bsky.social examines the rise of inscribed and decorated firearms in political violence and argues such markings are deliberate communicative acts.

A 29-year-old man in London has been convicted of terrorism and firearms offences after attempting to 3D-print an FCG-9 Mk2 gun. Another case underscoring how extremists are adapting emerging tech to bypass controls and build capability.

At a Canadian charity festival, scammers used a 3D printer to make fake $8 tokens, defrauding local groups. Beyond weapons, 3D printing has enabled fraud from license plates to fake IDs. Emerging tech isn’t dangerous itself, but misuse is unpredictable.

The killing of Charlie Kirk echoes the assassination of Jean-Paul Marat. Both were polarizing figures, admired by supporters and reviled by opponents. History shows assassinations rarely silence. They create martyrs, amplify conflict, and shape politics long after the act itself.
