Oof. Outbreak of Marburg virus disease in Ethiopia near the border with South Sudan. Nine infected so far.

Marburg virus is a cousin to Ebola and similarly causes a hemorrhagic fever, with reported case fatality rates ranging from 20% to 100%.

The Regime continues its attacks on public health.

The Department of Education has preliminarily concluded that public health degrees—MPH and DrPH—should not be considered professional degrees.

If it stands, it will result in significantly fewer funding opportunities for public health students.

The new policy seems to me to be another example of Director Bhattacharya talking a big game about supporting early stage investigators and high risk-high reward research but not considering how to achieve this (and taking step to make this harder).

This absolutely nuts.
I'm not sure there is a single scientist in the US who has not advised a Chinese graduate student in the past 5 years.
“The prohibited activities would include joint research, co-authorship on papers, and advising a foreign graduate student or postdoctoral fellow. The language is retroactive, meaning any interactions during the previous 5 years could make a scientist ineligible for future federal funding.”

NEW: We’ve uncovered the first known example of taxpayer money flowing from DHS to businesses controlled by Kristi Noem’s allies and friends.

It’s part of a money trail that’s been shrouded in secrecy—and involves $220 million, a mysterious Delaware LLC & a horse named Gill.

On top of that, as someone with aging parents, I have to point out that it is breathtakingly offensive to me for anyone to suggest three minutes of my mother talking in the kitchen could tell a machine everything it needs to know about her to simulate her. Fuck off, you ghouls.

Not good: Ethiopia is reporting a cluster of 8 suspected cases of a possible viral hemorrhagic fever.
It is not yet clear: (1) if these are true, confirmed cases; and (2) what the suspected illness is - many possibilities here ranging from not a VHF, to Ebolavirus, Ebola Sudan, Marburg, etc.

Note active voice in thread when victim "upends" Gaetz career but passive voice in image when discussing her exploitation.

"Gaetz sexually exploited a homeless child and destroyed his career in the process" would assign a man and a republican agency. And we can't have that.

When did it become NORMAL for federal agents to point guns in the faces of American citizens? Over 170 U.S. citizens have been held by ICE this year. The Fourth Amendment guarantees protection from unreasonable searches and seizures, but apparently that's irrelevant.
