I know some folks like to show respect for veteran politicians, but I’m done with that.
Dick Durbin has been useless in a job that could’ve been held by someone who actually understood the fascist threat.
If you’re not built for the fight, get out of the fight. But don’t throw us to the dogs.

Of all the outrages this administration has committed, this is one of the more infuriating
Black American soldiers literally dug these WWII graves. Traumatic. To acknowledge that fact at a cemetery they helped construct is something the Heritage Foundation cannot accept. As Veterans Day approaches, never forget that this country both compels and disrespects Black military service. Always.
1/ The US Government has quietly removed a memorial to Black soldiers who died in World War II from the Netherlands American Cemetery in Margraten, South Limburg. The move follows a complaint from the right-wing Heritage Foundation to the American Battle Monuments Commission. ⬇️

I would have loved to pull something like this off at that age!
Loving today's news that the mysterious "fedora man" outside the Louvre heist was actually a 15-year-old museum visitor who dresses like a 1940s French detective all the time, just because. apnews.com/article/louv...

Fifteen-year-old Pedro Elias Garzon Delvaux has become an internet sensation after an Associated Press photo captured him outside the Louvre on the day of a crown jewels heist.

Barbara Bel Geddes as Midge in Vertigo. She's supposed to be smart, sweet but plain young woman compared to Kim Novak, but she's actually the one that would cure a lot of men of their agoraphobia and inspire them to buy nice clothes and attend every single event where she might show up.
What’s your all time favorite Hollywood Homely fail? When a woman is meant to be unattractive but she’s gorgeous. Thinking of how Safety Not Guaranteed has a key moment where a man’s ex is in the script old and no longer attractive and she’s a knockout who the movie still plays as old.

From beyond the grave, a spectacular evisceration
A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.
Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."
Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

I‘ve always loved the design of SHANE, but couldn’t quite put my finger on why aesthetically it seemed „realer“ than other Westerns of its era, and thanks to this Derek-Guy-level thread now I know!
A thread on the visual authenticity of Shane (1953) & cowboy/artist Joe De Yong, the film's technical advisor:

THE AUDITION (Martin Scorsese, 2015) is a short comedy film starring Robert De Niro, Leonardo DiCaprio, Martin Scorsese, and Brad Pitt. It was made to stealthily promote Studio City, a resort-casino in Macau. Scorsese gives off a really funny Henry Winkler vibe throughout.

The corporatization of public universities has resulted in two things: making the educators who do the work in the classroom increasingly contingent and eliminating students‘ educational choice. Neither serves students or education.
It's great when the "we'll run your university like a business" types get administration positions because they always show you two things: they don't know how universities work and they are actually very bad at running businesses.
My former employer, the University of Nottingham, has axed its undergrad music and languages programs—but don't worry, there are still five separate degrees you can get in AI.
This is what happens when you corporatize education. What a joke.

I believe I speak for all teachers & students of Chicago literature when I say that Judge Sara Ellis opening her judgment against government goons in Chicago with all of Carl Sandburg's poem "Chicago" fills me with joy. My favorite line is "building, breaking, rebuilding": We will rebuild from here.
