I remain in love with Fucktoys, one of the best films of last/this year, and had a great (and very long) conversation with Annapurna Sriram over Zoom after meeting her at a film festival screening. We talk queerness, corniness, and what it means to be "American" nowadays.
Annapurna Sriram Wrote the Slutty, Liberated Brown Girl Ingenue She Wanted To Play Herself
"Fucktoys came out of wanting to write myself a job where a brown girl could be an ingénue, could be an object of desire, could be slutty, could be liberated."

“STAR TREK: STARFLEET ACADEMY is a show that will irritate and inspire in equal measure. … If creator Giala Violo and showrunner Noga Landau keep sharpening their characters’ immature edges, they might just find exciting new frontiers to explore,” writes Assistant editor @clintworthing.bsky.social:

Kid-centered spinoff STAR TREK: STARFLEET ACADEMY can be cringe as all getout. But like any set of young people, it's got potential, and unlike other Star Trek shows, it's got Holly Hunter sitting bisexually in a captain's chair.

This is well worth a watch, not just because you can see someone who was on the sidelines quickly become involved and engaged, but because it's another reminder that no one wants these fucking goons in their community.

I just watched him in one of my Walter Hill faves, Southern Comfort. Such a vivid presence; he'll be missed.
We are sad to learn that T.K. Carter has passed away at the age of 69. Carter is best known in the horror world for playing the character Nauls in John Carpenter's The Thing (1982). His credits also include Space Jam, Punky Brewster, Ski Patrol, and Tony Scott's Domino.

I have no idea how this show flew under my radar last year but I'll watch anything with Stephen Graham. Excellent review here by @clintworthing.bsky.social. Adding to the queue.
If you liked Stephen Graham's OTHER big 2025 show, rest assured it's back and as hard-hitting as ever, dealing below-the-belt blows to its already bedraggled characters.
