Met @annaleen.bsky.social and got to spend some good time talking science and spec-fic and they were even more amazing and brilliant than I expected. They had just thought deeply about such interesting and important things and knew how to say things in exactly the right way.
Screw "never meeting your heroes." What were some times you met your heroes and they were super cool?

If Vladimir Putin had a plan to foul our air and water, wreck public health and drive America over the cliff of irreversible lethal climate change, it would look exactly like Lee Zeldin’s plan. This is a plan for self-inflicted environmental disaster.

I already had lots of respect for Mad River Glen skiers from when a few of them showed up and stomped the competition at the Crested Butte extreme freeskiing comp. Now it’s at the top of my list of ski areas to visit

My students on Fulbright fellowships are dealing with this right now. Another on a USAID fellowship just told me their fellowship was terminated yesterday.

A “guarantee” from the USFG means nothing
The Fulbright Foreign Student Program invites graduate students from abroad to come study in the US and guarantees funding for them to do so paid in a monthly stipend. Yesterday, some FFSP scholars received notification that they're only getting a week of their stipend.

Sorry.
The reservation system is shut down, EMT personnel are gone, so don't get hurt or lost. No one can clean the bathrooms or cabins, so they'll be closed. Rangers are fired.

Exactly, we're always "wanting one weird trick" for causality but I think that's usually (RCTs actually are one weird trick) going to be at odds with the reality that you need to understand the system you're studying in a lot of detail to do good inference
