I've heard people say anecdotally that their first experience with several import SNES games was on the ZSNES emulator
learn from your third world brethren: enjoying the thing is infinitely more important than getting the Perfect Context. Some of the greatest experiences I've had were on an ancient version of Snes9x in a tiny ass window.
In general, it will strongly benefit you to experience art the "wrong" way from time to time. Watch a sequel first, read the funky scanlation, play the shitty port. See what you get out if it, and how that differs from what people normally get out of it.

in the final stretch of this whole thing? finally got the new tube paired with the chassis. spent about 2hr tuning things until i finally got a clear image
