Again, we have to start from a place where we care about what happens to other people. Everything else is bullshit.

I don't know, y'all, I would just never choose to play these fucking games with a guy who was so competent and squeaky clean and reasonable that the federal government paid many millions of dollars to train him specifically to go into space. Super bad idea to shamelessly slander astronauts.

Having spent my teens & 20’s with divorced parents, & having to have two whole meals on T-Giv & XMas, l have made sure my stepchildren know we’ll *never* be annoyed or upset if they’d rather be anywhere else on a holiday. We’ll simply love to see them any day, & any time of the year.
Actually in the spirit of this conversation, what’s a decision you made about a past Thanksgiving holiday that really paid off? I think people often feel trapped by their lives. Sharing our experiences can liberate us from that sense of claustrophobia.
On the most recent episode of VIBE CHECK, we answer listener questions about Thanksgiving, most importantly “do you go celebrate with the family members you don’t even like?”

Again - it’s worth communicating locally to people who love their public universities (even if just for sports) the existential threat posed by republicans.
Enrollment by international students from China dropped by 3 percent, from India by 4 percent, and enrollment from students from Mexico has flatlined. Here are the likely consequences for Texas' education and economy:
The High Cost of Targeting International Students in Texas
The Trump administration’s bans and airport detentions are derailing the academic dreams of students who carry out important research—and sometimes pay hefty tuition—to attend Texas institutions.

There’s nothing sadder to me on these treasure hunting trips than running into an incredible piece of print history—like this Intertype machine, that seemed pristine beneath its coat of dust—that will probably end up scrapped because pretty much no one can house or maintain it—we certainly can’t

Stevie Wonder releases “Uptight (Everything’s Alright)” 60 yrs ago today.

At 15, the child star was in danger of being a has-been. His voice was changing. Motown execs “would give assignments to the various producers,” said songwriter Sylvia Moy. “No one wanted Stevie.”

The song saved his career.

I’m so furious about this I’m gonna go into the woods & scream for a month.
This abandonment means dire consequences for Special Education. Federal protections for students with disabilities? Gone. Coordinated services? Scattered across agencies w/no education expertise. This is an abandonment of the most vulnerable. #TrumpCrushesYourDreams open.substack.com/pub/grounded...

A few weeks ago a very tired-looking lady behind us had 2 things of deli turkey, 1 can of chili, a pack of dinner rolls & 5 bottles of wine. I nodded at her as if to say, “Same, friend. Same.”
Looks like the lady in line ahead of me at Albertsons is having a day:

I will never forget having to edit Jamal’s final, posthumous piece for the Washington Post, after he was murdered.

He was calling for free expression in the Arab world. You can read it here :

Opinion | Jamal Khashoggi: What the Arab world needs most is free expression
The Arab world needs a modern version of the old transnational media so citizens can be informed about global events.
