This is blatantly, undeniably true and has been for a long time, and it is cooking people's brains to hang out there and think it's not true. Regardless of if you like this place as an alternative or not. Musk puts his thumb heavily on the scale because your feed there is his personal plaything.
If you're trying to convince your friends to spend time on Bluesky rather than X, maybe show them this. X is not "the public town square" or about "free speech." It's "just what Elon Musk wants you to see." If you see stuff he doesn't like he'll step in to make sure you don't see it for long.
If you scroll on X, you are only being shown what Elon wants you to see. If you create content on X, no one will see it unless Elon wants them to.

Mnookin is the chancellor of UW Madison, and I agree, her response here is terrible (from NYT interview, linked farther down). Roth, president of Wesleyan, is the only one in this conversation even acknowledging that the root cause of the current crisis is Trump's attack on universities.
This is an egregiously bad response from Mnookin. The Trump administration does not care about viewpoint diversity! They are trying to nuke the whole sector!

What we’re calling “AI” doesn’t replace cognition. It replaces pattern matching, but on its own has no idea which patterns are important or why.
We are nowhere close to an actual thinking machine.

The plow, the steam engine, electricity — all replaced muscle. AI replaces cognition. If you spend your day “reading lots of stuff and turning it into straight English,” well… so does the machine. The goal now is to learn from history and cushion the blow better than last time.

If the NYT is so rigorous, why did the NYT publish a story about a doctor specializing in Parkinson's visiting Joe Biden literally once (and notably, something Biden has never been diagnosed with)? Because they wanted you to draw your own conclusions about Biden.
I am not defending Landon’s relationship with Epstein. In fact, the NYT didn’t even try to defend it. He left the paper. What I’m saying is that a piece of investigative journalism that exposes a secret, criminal act such as statutory rape requires far more than what is in these emails.
