Another question I came here with was: how effective are the whistles and honking? Does it stop abductions? And the answer is, surprisingly to my cynical self, yes, and often. I have talked to so many people who have successfully interrupted kidnappings.

I am currently sitting in a meeting while we plan how to handle this. We will be pulling teachers from regular classes in order to teach our hybrid students. Classes are being rearranged, learning disrupted. The federal government is at war with us and we are feeing it at every level of society.
Saint Paul Public Schools, one of the biggest school districts in the state, is closed for the next two days because teachers need time to build hybrid learning because unaccountable masked, armed federal government goons have made it too difficult for nonwhite children to leave their homes.

If you live in the Cities, an easy way to help immigrant families in hiding is: laundry! Laundromats are ICE magnets, so people without washers need help.

The People’s Laundry will drop off laundry to your door to wash and dry and pick up a few days later:

I lost my job, my kids have measles, and Trump's personal Gestapo is randomly executing American citizens. But at least now there won't be any non-binary characters on the new Paw Patrol spin-off.

It's clear 2025 was the year we pretended, or were told to pretend, that "agents" were the next revolution.

They're not, as the technology is a fantasy.

It's also clear, if you saw CES coverage yesterday, that 2026 is year the pretending moves to imaginary robot slaves.

This will also fail.

Essay lenght but well worth the read.
I've noticed that there isn't much talk here about the current internecine war that is unfolding on the right, spearheaded in large part by Nick Fuentes, Tucker Carlson, and Candace Owens after the assassination of Charlie Kirk. I know this shit is insane and feels bad. But this is a mistake (1/)

Suleyman is also the guy who proposed that the new Turing-test should be based on whether an AI can function as a capitalist, of the merchant variety specifically. If I recall correctly, there was also some specific dollar amount he mentioned.
“…Suleyman has a vision for ‘humanist’ superintelligence…”

The three pillars are “serving as an AI companion that will help people ‘learn, act, be productive, and feel supported,’ offering assistance in the healthcare industry, and creating ‘new scientific breakthroughs” in clean energy.’”
Microsoft AI says it’ll make superintelligent AI that won’t be terrible for humanity

We used to say that the Crypto hype and the AI hype were different. That crypto was just a bunch of grifters stealing people's money but AI had at least some actual tech.

Looking at how the AI companies manipulate each other's stock value I am not sure that statement is still true.

They're really doubling down on the "AI are persons with rights" argument.
Character AI “argues that the words produced by its chatbots are speech, like a poem, song or video game. And because they are speech, they are protected by the First Amendment. You can’t win a negligence case against a speaker for exercising their First Amendment rights.”
