Ten fantasy books that prove self-publishing has come a long way
Self-published authors often enjoy unprecedented fandom, with traditional publishers taking note of the growing industry

I tend not to be detailed in descriptions, preferring to leave it up to the imagination of the reader. My characters' appearances are always a bit nebulous even in my own mind, which makes it difficult to write in detail. #writingq #WritingCommunity
Do you describe what your characters look like in detail or do you leave the idea of them up to the reader? I always describe; however, I expect that readers still imagine what they want to #writingq #WritingCommunity

Really excellent short story.
This short story is one of my very favorite pieces of political imagination!
I would like to point people to this short story by @naomikritzer.bsky.social it really encapsulates a lot of the attitude we hold dear. I love it. www.uncannymagazine.com/article/the-...

I hate how true this is....

Every time I try to advertise my book (old ones at this point, though I had the same problems when I had a new release) I just feel guilty.
It feels like it will never be a good time...

How fitting that today's #wipsnips word of 'climb' comes right as I'm editing a scene of mischief at a climbing gym. Shenanigans are pretty much MC Jude's love language. #writesky #writingcommunity #urbanfantasy

"The only rule I have yet to break is I refuse to read about billionaires in love, because that’s just repulsive, way more than, say, sexually deranged seven-foot gargoyles or alpha-wolf mating rituals." @swordsjew.bsky.social

A billion percent agree.

I sort of hate that even when I drink too much, my anxiety keeps me from posting anything funny. Like is that not the point?

The first side character Jude meets in my WIP Book4 is Marit, a short-tempered dryad who's growing bone-eating Faerie plants on the roof of Mei's condo building. Both Marit and said plant, who she's named Fred, do stage a comeback later in the book. #writesky #writingprompts #awesomecharacters
Tell me more about your #AwesomeCharacters

I had several requests for more side character questions! So, let’s talk about the first side character your MC meets on page.

Are they friend or foe? A stranger? Do they stick around or are they fleeting?

It is a truth universally acknowledged that the moment you put the laundry out on a surface to fold it, the cat will curl up in the most inconvenient spot.

Some books have portions that are like walking through a dark room and stubbing your toe on every piece of furniture to get a map of where you need to be.

And the only thing worse than doing that is...not doing it.

Finishing, uh...anything really. 2025 was a frustrating, garbage year where I felt stymied by my flighty, exhausted brain at every turn. Here's hoping 2026 will be better. #writingcommunity
Hey, #writingcommunity...

What's one big writing goal you want to accomplish in 2026??

I'd like to start cheering you on immediately, please and thanks 💜

How are the Oreo-Reese's combo cookies both better Oreo cookies and worse Reese's filling than their originals? I can't decide which of the companies could have possibly created this.

I signed! And every Canadian who knows all Canadians deserve human rights should also sign.

No government, provincial or federal, should be allowed to limit human rights based on extremist religious or political ideas that most people don't even believe in. #CdnPoli #CanPoli #AbPoli
Canadians, sign this petition to stop the use of the Notwithstanding clause against trans Canadians.

This is about provinces denying human rights, because trans rights are human rights.

SIGN.
