To be clear (since NPR isn't), the "joke" is premised on the fact that Trump is kidnapping people w/o due process and shipping them to offshore concentration slave camps in defiance of court orders, human rights accordances, the U.S. constitution, all tenets of common decency, and international law.

97% of ICE arrests are law abiding workers, people who contribute to the economy in so many ways.
Trump calls to hang Democrats who oppose him
US Coast guard no longer considers swastika a hate symbol
97.4% of (mostly) Latinos ICE arrested have 0 criminal record

This is what systemic white supremacy looks like. Trump is building a Nationalist Christian (Nat-C) state to violently stifle dissent.

My takeaway from every new Epstein revelation is that some powerful people victimized many powerless young women, many more knew, some actively enabled it--and we're still being told that MeToo and accountability for sexual violence have gone too far

if you genuinely think Schumer and Democratic leadership opposed this & Republicans coincidentally got exactly the number of votes they needed to avoid a filibuster and none of those votes are from Democratic Senators who are up for reelection in the midterms next year, I have a bridge to sell you.

I feel more like this with every passing year.

We need a party that is committed to preserving, protecting & improving life. We don’t need people intent on endlessly negotiating how much humanity we deserve or if we deserve any at all.

We don’t need a society built around manufactured scarcity.
This pretty much sums up the entire ideological dispute between the two American political parties.

What they are arguing about, on almost all issues, is either methodology or magnitude. That is literally it.

The party of We Will Kill You vs the party of We Will Let You Die.
To be clear, Lindsey Graham, an American senator, has gone on the most popular Sunday morning current events show in the country and suggested that we drop nuclear bombs on Palestinians.

While they may differ in methodology, both parties agree that Palestinians should be eliminated.

This! My kids, new voters, have been taught to do this in any race where a candidate is in both rows.
Be like Zohran. Vote down the Working Families Party line if you're in New York (or Connecticut).

A vote on the Working Families ballot line (Row D) is a vote to tax the ultra-rich to invest in universal childcare, affordable housing, healthcare, and a city where working people win.

Mamdani shows how hungry voters are for candidates who act like they actually care for the places they'd represent. Will he deliver? Not on everything. But he has an exuberance for the city that you wish Congress had for the country.

This right here, this exact sentence, is THE problem in American political journalism.

The IRA *was* cheap energy and good jobs! That was the whole bill! Democrats did precisely what political pundits are telling them to do and the pundits just ignore it.

"People are getting free food and they might not deserve it!" who gives a shit man literally one of the unambiguously good things about the 21st century is we have lots of excess food production and we have the capacity to have hunger be significantly less important in decision making.

A common concern about universal basic income is that people will end up buying drugs with it but in study after study, abuse of drugs tends to go down when people are provided cash. Why? Because a big reason people abuse drugs is self-medication of life stressors.

The poor don’t use cash transfers on alcohol and tobacco. Really.
Two years ago, Anna Popova and I put out a working paper examining whether beneficiaries of cash transfer programs are more likely than others to spend money on alcohol and cigarettes (“tempt…

This speech made me realize just how undignified the whole thing has gotten.

This is going to be a historic speech, the kind of speech that doesn’t happen anymore because everyone is crude and cynical, and sank to Trump’s level. We don’t need trolls, we deserve leadership.

It looks like this.
I want you to read this and understand that Mamdani will stand up for ALL OF US. Muslims, Jews, Christians, trans people, immigrants, EVERYBODY.

We are all exactly as vulnerable as everyone else; this man will stand up for ALL OF US.

Cuomo would NEVER.

Mamdani: "I want to use this moment to speak to the Muslims of NYC. I want to speak to the memory of my aunt, who stopped taking the subway after 9/11 because she did not feel safe in a hijab. I want to speak for the Muslims who work for our city ... only to see their leaders spit in their face."

Reminder: The United States cannot afford universal healthcare
ICE is stockpiling arms, including chemical weapons, guided missile warheads and explosive components. The spending dwarfs anything we've ever seen in the agency - a 700% increase.

The President is building an army to attack his own country.

In social movement studies, we talk about how marches and protests expand the threshold of acceptable risk so that people take more and bigger social risks IN PUBLIC, EN MASSE. This is extremely important for the bourgeois white folks holding signs and building social rapport.
Not a shitpost: #NoKings is feel-good performative activism for comfortable mostly upper and upper middle class white folks and that’s good, actually. Millions of people in the streets protesting a fascist regime is good. It is good for the normie baseline to be massive displays of public dissent.

Also, they want to make content. And that means they are going to take the worst stuff people say in response to them (this being the internet, some of which might be quite bad) and splash it across the official comms organs of every major federal law enforcement agency. So take that into mind.
The reason they're coming after this place is because they can't control the people on it and it drives them nuts.

This, exactly.
This gives zero credence to a social justice oriented criticism of AI rightly concerned with environmental and socioeconomic impacts.

Also, some of us did learn how to use it and realized the output is overwhelmingly garbage appreciated mostly by people without the taste to recognize that.
There are basically only two positions in the debate about AI.
1. I’ve barely invested any time in learning how to use it effectively. AI sucks.
2. I’ve invested in learning how to use this tool. Holy cow, it’s transformational.

Position #1 has lower barriers to entry.

the actual story here, which the media never talks about, is that police in this country have become a discrete right-wing political operation. the story isn't about cops leaving (they're lying about that), it's about the police trying to exert influence over elections.
