Oohhh let's talk about this. I am huge proponent of what folks in my circle call Critical Nerd Theory.

For folks who didn't know me back in my A Tribe Called Geek days, I was a huge potterhead, twi-hard, whovian, firebrony, etc.
Still am!
another thing I feel like people need to learn is to "separate the art from the artist", because i feel like people tend to just avoid consuming certain media altogether just because they dont like the author even if they enjoy it, watching certain shows or playing certain games doesn't mean you—
everyome there focuses so much on all the bad things some people did and refuse to even consider the fact that they can learn and grow from their mistakes, they want to find reasons to be miserable apparently

I get tired of saying it, but I’ll say it again: the nature of oppression in America is that they workshop it first on Black, Latino, Asian & Native people.

But it is always, in the end, coming for everyone.
The arrests of journalists Don Lemon and Georgia Fort are a test for every MSM member with a platform. If you are not voicing your outrage at this blatant violation of the First Amendment, you are utterly discredited as a journalist.

CORRECTION: Jamael Lundy isn’t a journalist. He’s a lawyer and a public servant who is running for Minnesota Senate.

Georgia Fort, Don Lemon, Jamael Lundy, and Trahern Crews.

Judges have already ordered ICE to wear body cams and it doesn't stop them from lying and doing violence. The guy who shot Renee Good was literally filming himself doing it.

What do you mean "create a code of conduct" there already IS a code of conduct that prohibits murdering people who are not using violent force. It is called the US Constitution.

If that's not binding ICE, neither will your agreement.

We already have a warrant requirement. It's called the US Constitution. If that's not fucking binding them, what the hell does your little agreement mean?
Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said the party agreed on three main goals:

° Require warrants in some cases and ICE coordination with state and local law enforcement

° Create a code of conduct and enforce it

° Require agents to wear body cams and not masks
Democrats demand new ICE restrictions as government shutdown looms
After federal agents shot and killed Alex Pretti in Minneapolis, Senate Democrats say they’ll block a massive government funding package without policy changes.

I don't think people understand that if you shut down the government, ICE and CBP do NOT shut down. They're funded by supplemental money from the BBB. That's why dems are separating the DHS funding bill and asking for restrictions. I want them to demand a rescission of that funding or shut DHS down

Gross. I see the red hat discussion has made it to bluesky.

Here I go. I'm not going to outright say it is performative....it is, but here are my larger concerns.

1. Weird how White Americans have no originality and continue to co-opt and columbus other movements and symbols of resistance.

@rokhanna.bsky.social: No. And that should be the answer across the Democratic Party.

It is totally fine for people who have been harmed to hear an apology and refuse to accept it. To acknowledge it and never trust the person saying it. To expect more than words. Get comfortable with the uncomfortable because the real world does not function like a sitcom.

I will never understand the rush to forgive white supremacist fanboys for the harm they enabled as soon as they decide it isn't fun to be hateful anymore. Sure there are some who have actively worked to make amends, but tons more will pay lip service and then start the cycle all over again

This is why we had Jim Crow instead of truth and reconciliation after slavery ended. People are so quick to absolve anyone who pays lip service to changing their mind about human rights violations instead of letting them live with the social consequences of their words
Bluesky idea: if people who didn't agree with you change their opinions so that they do agree with you, why not be happy that you are making progress - rather than complaining that they are "only just catching up"?
