The Google AI search results are a bit like an Irish person giving directions. They might not know the answer but they're happy to give it a go and guess along with you.

Immigration numbers are too high. We have to listen to the people in this country. The increase is too high.

September reading wrap up: no photos for this one as I've mostly been editing my own novel and Beta reading a novel for my friend, neither of which are published (yet!).

But I sure did START reading a lot of different things, now I just need to finish something 😅

Just gave the 3-year-old a "disco bath" - we turned the lights down, put glow sticks in the bath and I played maniac 2000 from my phone. Everyone had fun, definitely recommend it.

It’s a "crisis" when immigrants "take jobs away", but "innovation" when machines do. Funny.

To paraphrase David Graeber: The ultimate hidden truth of society is that it is something we make, and can just as easily make different.

FFFG is complicit by STILL not passing the OTB, by STILL allowing arms through SNN & Irish airspace, by STILL not legislating to stop the central bank from validating genocide bonds, by STILL not stepping away from the EU's complicity to take action.

Spitting in the face of our own famine history
Entirely man-made famine.

You really aren't going to get a better example of how the British media works than the contrasting coverage of two Irish authors this week.

The brave and sensitive transphobe John Boyne vs the vile and hateful opponent of genocide Sally Rooney.

Remember when we hounded & harassed kids who put books online for public educational access?

Or the music geeks we threw in jail for sharing mp3s?

It’s all just “oopsie” now?

Introduced the three-year-old to 'My Neighbor Totoro' today. She loved it, but especially the soot gremlins or "spud gremlins" as she kept calling them. Studio Ghibli, but for culchie kids 😅

This is what the phrase “wiping them off the face of the Earth” actually looks like. Devastating aerial footage of the literal annihilation of #Gaza by Israel, truly one of the worst war crimes of the last century.
This is amongst the most impactful two minutes of broadcasting I’ve ever seen.

This is the thing about self-pub and now even trad-pub (if things go that way.) I have five kids. I have some chronic illnesses. The time I do have at my disposal should be for the writing portion of the gig. If I have to try and go viral on TikTok? If I have to have an aesthetic on Instagram? Oof.
Of course the irony is, a lot of publishers leaned hard into the "no, YOU do it" marketing plan of "having authors post on social media," which was never ever going to be a substitute for a publisher's efforts to move copies. But it was free for them and work for us, sooooo. *whistles*
